** TIME TO BUY A NVIDIA 9xx IS NOW: REASON INSIDE!! **

I was wondering about the 970's but could they keep 60 fps consistently at 4k in the new aaa titles like inquisition ect? The settings i would want to use are a mix of ultra/high with no or little AA. I aint going to try run them on full everything ! :P

The 970s are very close to 980s with even a mild overclock, but far cheaper
If there is something the 970's can't handle, the extra few fps you would get from 980's would not make a visible difference in actual usage

What CPU/clocks are you running?

I7 4770k clocking at 4.5 with the cosair 100hi cooler . the cpu has been stable for more then a year . Am also using windows 8.1

Reason 3: The real upgrade to the 700 series is coming soon and you want to sell the 980 at top prices. :D

and then u will say the same again when the next next gpu comes out.

rinse and repeat my friend.

the 900 series just came out a few months ago. dont expect the next gen cards for another 6+months

2 cards of the series have come out
you expect NVidia to only release 2 cards? shaaa rite

Well I am looking at selling my r9 295x2 as I am finding it just does not do what I had hoped at 4k. Dragon age inquisition gets 22-50 fps depending what i am upto on high settings in 4k and dropping down to 2k or 1080 does not improve the fps or smoothness at all. Unity is just a bloody joke at 1080p2k and 4k I get the same results on high settings with 0 aa on a crappy 30 fps at best and it stutters like nothing I have ever played. In wow at a 2k i get 30-40 fps and this is useing the latest omega drivers from amd.

My monitor is the ASUS PB287Q and i really like it but now i dont know to go with 2 980s or hold out and see what happens at the CES show and see if nvidia release something better then the 980s!
Any advice would be greatly received!

I wouldn't be sidegrading from a 295X2 to a pair of GTX970 cards - you will only regret it once the new higher end cards from Nvidia and AMD are released in the next six months.

I know plenty of WoW players myself and even with the latest patch it is far more CPU dependent.

If you are having problems at 1080P that indicates the GPU is not the problem even if Crossfire is not working.

Even a single R9 290X with a 4.5GHZ Core i7 should not be having issues at 1080P with WoW. My mates with slower CPUs and GPUs(both AMD and Nvidia) are fine at 1080P.

Is your overclock stable?? What PSU do you have?? Could it be even a bodged driver install??

any cards released now will be just dual gpu varients or midrange cards. you expect nvidia to release a single GPU varient that crushes a 980gtx? nope ;)

crushes no, is faster yep!
my guess is march
and then the even faster a couple months later lol
with all the special editions it should feel like 10 cards

GM204 is a 400mm2 die, GK110 was 551mm2
Nvidia certainly have the space on 28nm to release something significantly faster than GTX980 if/when AMD release something that looks like it could affect sales.

Maybe yes.
All at a higher price yes!

980 is here for another six months or more at least, won't be replaced. NVIDIA might just release faster more expensive versions such as 980Ti, 980 8GB, 990 GTX, Titan II are all possibility, I repeat POSSIBILITIES and will carry huge price tags. :)

yep no doubt
if there is a titan2 and then a titan2 black edition lol could we see a new record high card in the uk ><

Well my psu is the evga supanova 1300 G2. My cpu was stable at 4.5 gig when I was running my gtx 690 last year . When I got the R9 295x2 I tried it on windows 7 for a few weeks then upgraded to windows 8.1 "I got a free legal key " installed windows as a fresh install.

I dont get any BSOD or anything like that. My valley/uni scores are a bit lower then some other 295s . I gave up any attempt at overclocking it that did cause problems. I am just at the end of my wits with this gpu never had such problems tbh.

And with gibbos predictions I ordered 2 msi 970s so here goes the testing tomorrow !

Same here, i was gonna sidegrade to a pair of 970's. Extra vram and a bit cooler running. Decided to just wait until i can get one decent single card.

yes, it's a great card for gaming, but quite slow in Daz 3D modelling, it takes ages to load up the screen menu and ages to render an image....you rotate the mouse and wait ages for the screen to respond, i dont know if this is RAM or the fact that DAZ 3D doesn't do SLI, but i'm deffo getting fed up with it.
