Hey guys, is that possible somehow to use 4K TV at 60hz with R9 290?

Any switch from DP to HDMI then to TV?

or sell and buy GTX 970?

Only the 970/980 have HDMI 2.0, so as far as 60HZ 4K goes, it won't be on the HDMI of the 290.
I don't know if they've made an adaptor yet that'll do DP - HDMI 2.0.

Tbh a single 290 at 4k isn't going to be enough for gaming anyways.. Even a 970 will struggle.

What games do you play?

I play FIFA15, Diablo3. Thats it mainly.

How much I can take for one year old r9 290 msi gaming? all box and everything? will be 150quid?

Depending on settings would them games even push over 60fps @4k?

On single 290 or even 970. I wouldn't change GPU at the moment just for 60hz.. No point
Wait little longer and next gen GPUs coming.

there are dp to hdmi2 adapters coming just get one of those if you need 60hz, a quick google and you'll find details

Ultimately this comes down to what games you will be playing.

Free to Play titles such as Team Fortress for one example, games such as CS SS / CS Go etc would be fine.

World of Warcraft with some settings turned down but then games such as Crysis 2/3 / Far Cry 4 I don't think it would be an enjoyable experience even on low settings.

To put that into prospective I've seen in benchmarks even 2 GTX 970 in SLI get an average framerate of roughly 30 FPS in Crysis 3 at Medium settings in 4k. (Which puts the 290 which is slower than a 970 alone into prospective)

Check some benchmarks of 4k with the GPU's you have in mind on youtube to give you a better idea.

My 970's get more then 30fps on very high at 4k so god knows what benchmarks you've been looking at.

I have around 150 games and there's literally only a handful that I can't run maxed out with a locked 60fps at 4k.

AandTech benchmarks for a 970 on Crysis at 4k on LOW settings average of 40 fps. Now Crysis on low is like a Sunday dinner with no gravy plus even 40 fps is to low as a personal preference for me.

My point is most settings will have to be cranked down, Guess that kind of defeats playing at 4k for that Ultra experience. In real world gameplay it would not be optimal at all with latest titles which I am sure many benchmarks and 4k users would back me up.

But selling a 290 for a 970 for perhaps a roller coaster experience wouldn't be a great investment for the guy.

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/35-ca...-1-2-hdmi-2-0-adapter-there-manufacturer.html

as i said they are 'coming'

thanks, I don't normally trawl through forums looking for titbits
though searching for the contents of that post do then lead to this;

http://www.vesa.org/news-events/press-kits/

"DP-to-HDMI 2.0 Legacy Adapter – DisplayPort is designed to provide backward compatibility for existing display types. This video adapter converts DisplayPort 1.2
to HDMI 2.0, driving a 4K@60Hz monitor with full 24 bit video."

so looks like vesa themselves are demo-ing it at CES, so it is up to a manufacturer to pick it up and sell it

I can confirm that two R9 290x in crossfire are crazy for 4k gaming with a 4k 60htz screen using the display port :-D truly stunning

I can also confirm that four R9 290X 8GB cards offer buttery smooth gaming at 4K with triple digit fps in a lot of games at maximum details using Display Port 1.2.

That is wrong......And you guess about having to crank most of the settings down is also wrong.

Maybe try gaming at 4k first instead of guessing?

You would have to turn quite a bit down, I have had WoW dip to low 40's during heavy raiding and that's with SLI 970's at 2560x1080.
