Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

The French won't respond well to this. we've had a problem with people not merging into society and there has as a result been a huge amount of discontent in France - the banning of the Hijab for starters. This will just fuel it further. With Algeria and other Arab/Muslim nations as ex-territories of France it's going to be a tense time. France wants to maintain its own sense of identity, but whilst allowing/encouraging a secular society as well as freedom of religion. A balance that is very difficult to achieve.

The problem is the French often respond pretty harshly to this sort of thing (well they have in the past) I just hope they don't do the American thing here...

Such tragic sad news - 12 people had their lives taken for doing their jobs. Whilst it may be teetering on the edge of being offensive, things in Private Eye and other comic publications are accepted as tongue in cheek publications.

I hope they catch them and get to the bottom of why, and stop this in its tracks.

it may well be against their religion...but its not against my religion on the magazine staffs religion

I am not a follower of islam and I live in a secular country..same as france, so I am free to say it a crap religion in my opinion and that it preaches a terrible message of hatred and intolerance

this may or may not be true..but I am allowed to say it

same as I could draw a picture of the prophet in ms paint and it wouldnt cause me to care 1 iota.

It's a difficult one.

How is it a difficult one?

Those who made the magazine were not muslims, as such they shouldn't have to follow the rules of islam, or any other religion they are not apart of.

Are they supposed to stop drinking alcohol too? Stop eating pork?

if you don't follow islam you are a non-believer and therefore worthless.... or so it seems.

A possible response to atrocities like this is for many, many more media outlets to start publishing this type of satire. Enact our freedom of speech. There is nothing wrong with satire regarding someone else's ideas and we should never feel that it is.

I'm not sure many people would actually be comfortable doing this though, so in a sense, freedom of speech is already tempered.

Despicable act of terrorism.

Hopefully one day this will end. :(

However no one has pointed out that it is against their religion to draw pictures of Allah and Muhammad. Which I'm guessing this magazine does?

Unfortunately this is a clash of ideologies. We live in the west in a democratic society, where the press has freedom to express them self. They live in a world where the religion is the basis of their society. Their religion is the law. The religion says you can not draw depictions of Allah and Muhammad.

It's a difficult one. Because on the one hand, the French should be a bit more sympathetic and realise that they should not be doing this as it against Islam, but at the other spectrum, allowing such pressures to change the things the press produces is censorship and a form of fascism.

This is why this is a HUGE problem. It's a clash on every level from society, culture to religions.

The French magazine broke no law in France. Carrying alcohol without a brown bag in New Jersey is illegal - you don't see the US government complaining when people walk down a UK street with alcohol on show. You can't enforce your own ideas of law onto another country.

Unfortunately though the response would not be instantaneous and therefore the action would be take after countless innocent people would have lost their lives.

Wouldn't that be the same whether the country had an armed police force or not ?

Nothing can be put in place to prevent some loss if life in such a scenario.

they cant kill everyone..perhaps a day of tweeting ms paint verison of the prophet

Well he can it be in bad taste but I dough he be killed over it maybe a little time in the slammer at most.

lie I said comedic displays are allowed. Will have to declare it as a comedy sketch.
There was a case not that long ago where a german comedian Hitler-saluted and 'sing-heiled' and was acquitted in court. The law allows for it but someone felt compelled to report him to the authorities anyway.

Yes, very highly. And we probably trained them and they are more than likely working for the establishment.
I'm betting another false flag to spread fear and hatred, in order to attack other countries in the name of terrorism, with full public support.
There is a reason the word "terroism" is being thrown at us from every angle these days.

It can't be ruled out sadly.

Not much beardage for such religious fanatics.

I did not know that. I think south park made the point that you can be tolerant but you don't have to like it.

Well we already all have to eat Halal chicken if we want to eat chicken at all...

If World Govts. could link Video Games to acts of violence as committed by Islamist fanatics then there would be a complete and immediate blanket ban on Video Games, but because it's a 'Religion' we are told to 'Tolerate' it. Tolerating the intolerant does not work.
