My Mrs' 2.0 litre dag dag Xsara Picasso is beyond economical repair due to 'gearbox issues' so whilst it's currently still driveable we're looking to replace it as soon as.
I'd like to find something fairly soon before the Picasso goes pop and also to keep my offspring well away from my 530i.
Bearing in mind this will be driven predominantly by her and will transport our 3 young kids it needs to be robust enough to stand up to the dogs abuse that will inevitably come its way as a result of her unsympathetic driving style and just by virtue of being a daily driver.
2 booster seats and a baby car seat rules out Focus size cars. She also hates Mondeos. She won't even entertain looking at one.
Being a lady she's **** scared of 'big saloon cars' and erroneously believes that diesel is the be all and end all.
What other family hacks should we consider? Diesel or petrol is cool. She probably doesn't do the types of journey to justify a diesel or the necessary miles but there's really no point arguing the logic of it.
I am however well on the way to convincing her to try a 1.8 petrol Xsara Picasso. Loads of these around within budget and the Exclusive trim offers a few decent toys. Surprisingly she's open to the idea of trying one.
What other reliable family hacks should we consider?
~ 2k budget.
