FreeSync monitors hit mass production, coming in Jan-Feb

Why would humbug have to flash a monitor if he bought one? The whole point is that if the monitors were available he could use it :p

Well technically there is a Freesync capable monitor for sale right now, it just needs to be returned after purchasing to be usable... Ohhh and have drivers from AMD. I am pretty sure there are other Freesync capable monitors but I would be surprised if any of the manufacturers fessed up to that.

Ohhh and @Mei.... Unity is so last year, all I play now is Elite Dangerous.

Could have swore amd have the drivers.
And that monitor in question, is now in question :p.

You would be wrong to buy any monitor right now and looking for a firmware upgrade quite frankly. Wait until there's proper announcements with official support.

That monitor in question has had its firmware upgrade thrown into question and turmoil, possibly going to lose OCUK money.

I didn't know that regarding the Freesync monitor and jusst assumed from Humbugs post that you was still waiting for the drivers?

Pretty sure Freesync came in the Omega drivers?
As far as I'm aware. If an Adaptive Sync monitor launched tomorrow, you'd be kosher.

Alas, the monitors aren't coming out tomorrow.

We could be waiting a while for any monitor, and probably a few months before a full range of choice comes.

Good that it is $200 cheaper than G-Sync though, regardless of wait and I bet a few of the guys who jumped on G-Sync months and months ago are kicking themselves for not waiting... Good work AMD.

I wouldn't put any stock in price comparisons for a few months, given as I keep saying. The price of the Gsync monitors probably include a fair bit more margin on the monitor too (For the manufacturer).

Personally, not me. As a nearly adopter I am happy with the price I paid. This would not be the case if the ROG Swift was an expensive trashy monitor with G-SYNC support. The fact is, even without G-SYNC, it's an absolutely stunning monitor.

The only thing lacking with G-SYNC at the moment is support for Windowed Mode (Which I believe is a technical limitation) It's a minor hassle as a Multi-Monitor user and alt-tabbing but a seamless transition between desktop and fullscreen is already available so...cannot complain too much.

As far as doing what G-SYNC is supposed to do - it's bloody amazing. I highly doubt FreeSync can offer an experience that is tangibly better so....no buyers remorse from me.

The freesync on with vsync off is what I will definitely be running..

If I understand this correct.
I can have a game like bf4 running mostly in the 150fps range with odd drops in frame rate. So with freesync on when the frame rate drops it should keep gameplay looking smooth and then once it passes the 144hz it's back to max smoothness with zero latency.

Win, win from me if that's true.

Good information silverfox.

I understood it as Freesync[On]+Vsync[Off] would result in tearing above your refresh rate shankly, though that could be me getting it wrong.

Yes it will, but you can limit your fps to 143 on a 144hz screen, just like G-snyc.

Basically unless your running a very demanding game like crysis 3 at max settings its pointless getting a 60hz sync monitor unless on older games you keep the fps between 30 and 59. To me this is what vsync off and limiting fps to 59 does anyway as i cant see any tearing and no input lag.

Yeah that is true.. But for me I have played pc games for years with vsync off etc so am perfectly used to screen tearing, not something I notice.

Freesync isn't my reason for buying a new monitor but it is something I like to try out.
The fact I could have the best of both worlds is massive seller to me.
