Recommend me a board!

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone could recommend me a board for my i5 4670K, having major stability problems with my current Gigabyte D3HP board so would be keen to avoid that brand if possible! Looking at something mid-range nothing too pricey. Thanks :)
 
Hi,

Various issues: USB devices losing connectivity, using onboard DVI socket I randomly lose screen signal for a few seconds then the image re-appears, corrupt sound when booting up to name a few. I am in contact with Gigabyte regarding a repair but I can only assume its the board :(
 
Well you are lucky Gigabyte take it back with their decent support, with Asus they'll just say "go to retailer" :p

I'd wait to hear back, the likelihood is you'll get a replacement Z87 motherboard or reconditioned one
 
Thanks, the retailer have agreed to RMA it once I've sent some pics across. GB wanted £15 to send it back so not a bad result, they've said if they can't repair it they will replace it. Cost me £92 in June 2013.
 
Well I've just updated to F7 today and so far I've had no screen signal loss or sound issues..but weirdly this has happened in the past following a BIOS update then it returns. I'm holding off the RMA until I've used it a few days to see if I still get the issues.
 
Well I've been using it frequently since the update and no issues so the retailer has cancelled the RMA for now and have advised if the issues to return to contact them and they will authorise it again, can't complain! :)
 
Good to hear it's fixed. A bios update can fix a vast array of problems and it's the first thing I do when I install a new board. I then keep it up to date as new versions are released.
 
Saves me buying a one! Will look to get a GTX 970 in the next few months so I can get back into PC Gaming :)
 
Started losing signal to the screen again this morning so I've decided to RMA the board. Will report back if they offer me a replacement and see where to go from there :)
 
Well my old board is being collected tomorrow however in the meantime I've ordered an Asus Z97 Pro Gamer board from ocuk, the numerous issues have put me right off gigabyte so I will see how the new board performs! :) will probably flog the replacement unless they offer me a refund. I did notice some CPU pins looked slightly off but when I sent them the pics for RMA they said the were happy to proceed with the RMA. I've certainly not bent them so they must have been like that from the start, it could explain my various issues though. I hope I've made a good choice with the Asus!
 
From the reviews it looks like a good solid board. Looks good too. I would update to the latest bios (0501) if it doesn't come with it as it gives some stability increases. What are you running your Sammy Greens at by the way?

Just bad luck I think.

My understanding and experience is that Gigabyte make good motherboards. I`ve installed more than a few, and have had no problems with any of them. In fact I have one in my own PC. In the unlikely event of a problem, Gigabyte's returns facility is in the UK, and turnaround is usually fairly quick.

Must just be bad luck then. I'm not
Hopeful on the RMA anyway so will see what happens next week when they test it.
 
I think all of the major manufacturers make decent boards these days. ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte etc have been designing and manufacturing motherboards for a while now. They know that reliability is a big factor in gaining brand loyalty. You will always get the odd failure here and there. And when you consider how complex a motherboard is, it's suprising that there aren't more failures !

Hope you get your board sorted, and don't be put off by Gigabyte. If their boards were unreliable, we'd know about it. I'm not a Gigabyte shareholder, by the way, I sometimes use MSI boards, and they also seem reliable.
