Asking for a pay review...

Do you get a yearly % increase in line with cost of living increases etc?
Other than having a kid and more money being nice, have you taken on more work or had your job role changed?
Do you know if others have had increases?
How do you know that a review hasn't been done and you jsut haven't been given a raise?
 
I know you have a lot on your plate, but could we please schedule my review?

You never attend any of the meetings I schedule, never reply to emails, you haven't helped achieve any of the departmental objectives and I cant recall seeing you in the office!

Our CTO left middle of this year, and I basically took on all of his management tasks such as sprint planning, process improvement for development and running project management meetings etc. So yes, my role and responsibility has changed massively since I started.

But as for what I can expect, I have no idea really as it would be my first pay review and the contract doesn't state what it will be or what it's based on.
 
Say "Wheres me money init?"

I would just ask "Has there been any progress with the pay review?" I had to keep pestering my line manager for a pay rise last time. It took 3 months to go through and i didn't even get back pay. He said it was not him holding it up but the people above him.
 
Look after number 1 first.

As soon as those 'couple weeks' were up I would have asked again.

but your contract states you are due a review - I would speak to the person you need to talk to and ask him when he is able to put time aside for your review.

Emails can easily be ignored - face to face can't. Your not asking for anything that you are not contractually obliged to.
 
Well I asked...and was told that they'll hopefully do it next week...fml :D

But apparently it's been discussed with the CEO and the proposal is done, just needs to be reviewed but she said it was expected to be in this months pay. She did say it would only take effect from Jan 1st so no real back pay, but wondering if that's more because she's forgotten. Otherwise I will mention it in my review.
 
Look at it this way, if you dont get paid the extra bits you can put on your CV always help, if they dont pay you for it then I'm sure someone else will...

I wrote a huge post but in fear that I sound bitter about a previous workplace, I'm changing it to this one. :)

IF you thing you deserve more and if you think your colleagues will understand why your being paid more.. You should get more.

I'm being paid 45% more than I was, working in the same field in a more relaxing job with a better career ladder all because my previous place refused to review my pay.

An ex's father once told me that to take the hikes in pay you need to switch company. He wasn't wrong as I found out for myself over the last couple of years.

He gave me this advice whilst we were eating breakfast in his very extravagant lake house in Montreal..

I worked at a place for just over two years before a pay review because I was an idiot and it was at a point in my life where it didn't matter too much. I finally realised I was getting screwed over and used the MD of the company assigning me new areas that he expected me to be proficient in as time to ask for a review, which they dragged their heels on for 6 months, did a sort of kangaroo court review where my job description was barely recognisable, and then I quit to earn double the cash doing something I enjoyed more for someone else.

What I'm trying to say is that if your company doesn't consider it a priority that your contractually obligated pay review is three months late then you need to focus your efforts on getting out because you are wasting your time.
 
If you feel you deserve it, tell them what you've done to deserve it and what you feel you deserve. I got a rise after 6 months, despite the 'norm' being no reviews in the first 12 for a new employee, and to fit in with the review cycle I would have waited 18 months. I did a placement at the company, but when I returned full time made it clear I wasn't staying on the same money for 18 months!
 
Go in with confidence and actual evidence as to why you should get a rise and you have every chance (if they like you and you're not already a top earner amongst your peers).
 
Just an update on this if anyone is interested...probably not :p

Got told that it would be the following week from when I made the thread, didn't happen. Mentioned it in passing last week and got told "definitely before pay day".

Just found out that the person doing it isn't in this week so I won't get it this week either, and will miss the pay day deadline.

Think it's time I look for another job as a few people have said :)
