GALAX GeForce GTX 970 Infinity Black Edition coil whine :(

If OCUK are guaranteeing "no coil whine", but know that some cards will whine, why don't they test each card before despatch ?

It might take a few minutes to carry out the test, but it would almost eliminate returns, and increase customer satisfaction.

OCUK returns policy and guarantees aren't worth the mark-up they are written with.

I have had to start legal action against OCUK via my credit card company for breach of the Sale of Goods Act, Consumer Credit Act, Consumer Contracts Regulations and their own Terms & Conditions.

It's a disgrace!

Hi there

OcUK pride ourselves in offering the best levels of customer service as can now be seen by online ratings, were at the top. :)

But as always no company is perfect and if your having what you consider bad service then please post here the issue and include the RMA/Order number and I will get it looked into for you and hopefully resolved to your satisfaction. :)

I have to say having used OCuK for the last ten years they've changed a lot. Well done guys. I can't believe this RMA has already been replaced and the new one dispatched. That will be like under 48 hours from me making the RMA to getting new unit.

Superb work guys. Keep it up!

Will post back tomorrow with results of new unit

Would you care to go into details a bit more ?
Sure...

I have had two faulty SSD's, accepted a replacement the first time, requested a refund the second time, OCUK claim their was nothing wrong with the item even though I have proof from the manufacturer confirming the fault and telling me to RMA the item.

I requested refund for the faulty item as is my legal right, but instead OCUK decided to engage in a distressing game of postal tennis.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18642381

Which has resulted in me taking legal action via my credit card company.

Let alone the fiasco I am having regarding 2 x GTX 970's with coil whine and faulty VRAM, which I returned after 3 days, and appear to be having the same problem.

As a disabled person suffering from dyspraxia, I have found the coil whine unbearable and OCUK's behaviour very upsetting and distressing. Their opinion of 'acceptable' is irrelevant unless they are blatantly discriminating against my disability. Not to mention the fact the GFX cards appear to have faulty VRAM which they didn't even test for.

This has put a serious dampener on my Christmas plus my Birthday which is Saturday, as one of the 970's was meant to be a present from my Wife!

Seriously out of pocket, very upset and distressed and no Birthday present.

Just glad I never purchased the 28"-32" 4K G-Sync monitor I was going to buy myself, as I feel that could have been another £1,000.00 nightmare if something went wrong!

RMA's : 274298 & 274870

I've replied in your SSD thread, shocking and I checked the failure rate on that product, 67% so as of now OcUK will no longer sell G.Skill SSD's as they are have poor return rates.

I have my return manager now looking into things for you to hopefully resolve matters. :)

mine has a little whine - not huge. but when i asked ocuk i was told i needed a superflower one for the no coil whine replacement to take effect.

My psu in my eyes was pretty good, but only bronze.. it's a "Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020042-UK)" bought from ocuk

Hello there 1dmf,

I am sorry to hear of this issue with the RMA returns.

Looking first into RMA 274298:

The testing report of the G Skill drive said it worked perfectly when used here, It was tested on 3 different test rigs and it was working A OK. I actually saw this with my own eyes as well.

However I made sure it was processed for a refund anyway for you as you requested.

RMA 274870:

These Inno 3D iChill cards were returned both for coil whine, when used in our test rigs here (With a Superflower Leadex Platinum 1000W) there was no audiable whine on the cards at all. They were both tested under load with no fault at all.

I can suggest checking the forum thread where myself and Gibbo publically discuss the coil whine issue and how to prevent it.

There were also no corruptions or artifacts on the cards as far as I can see on the testing report as well.

All other customers please be aware these were not Gibbo's cards, they were Inno 3D

Regards

Bailey

Hello there

We advise to get a high rated PSU in order to help combat the Coil Whine. We dont specifically say get a super flower. Its just a recommendation.

Thanks

I have a CX750M psu which is a budget one, If I change this for a RM650 gold rated and I still get a Whine I can return? Also why would this card Whine when on the desktop?

Bailey, I have provided video evidence of the problem of artefacts, with accompanying video that it doesn't happen with my GTX760's.

Nor do the 760's or any other video card I have ever purchased in the 20 years I have built computers make an irritating whine, which I am susceptible to due to a disability I was born with.

The report I was sent by email doesn't mention any test regarding the VRAM / artefact issues and driver crashes / 3DMark crashes & red dot artefacts.

Which formed part of my reason for return, under your 14 day satisfaction guarantee and CCR legislation.

I offered to take a replacement of the these 'no coil whine' guaranteed GALAX GFX cards at a loss to myself as they were @ £20.00 per card cheaper than what I paid for the Inno3D , which was denied.

I also clearly noted in the accompanying letter I have a : Superflower Leadex Platinum 1000W which I bought from OC?UK as I just spent £2,000.00 on a new build with OCUK and was considering spending a further £1,000.00 on a monitor.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent proving I was fair and clear about the issues I had with the GFX card and the fact I wanted a refund to spend the money with yourselves again as the replacement request was denied..

http://dance-music.org/bits/GTX970_refund.pdf

If these cards are attempted to be delivered back to me the delivery will be rejected.

---------

Gibo -> thank you , finally someone is listening and realises there is a serious issue with these cards, something I found hence, requested my refund, especially when I found another e-tailer 1 week after launch refused to sell them also : http://dance-music.org/phoenix.png

67% failure is disgraceful, and it is shocking considering this fact the nightmare I have had trying to get my money back.

Hi,

I noticed today that my 970 has started to have coil whine when playing games, particularly counterstrike global offensive where my fps fluctuates from 150-300. This is apparent not only when fps goes excessively high, but in the differences between 150 and 300 which is a pretty normal range for that game.

The power supply I am using is the below, which was purchased from yourseves on a previous order, number: OC1291686

Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020042-UK)

I know the PSU doesn't say 'Gold' as in the small print of your guarantee, but can it be replaced as im confident my PSU is good?

Thanks in advance,

Hi there

Please see the thread in the graphics card about coil whine prevention.

You will need a Superflower PSU being honest.

Bailey

*need* but nvm :P

If your willing to change your PSU first of all change to a higher quality brand, EVGA, Superflower, Seasonic, XFX all build using higher quality components than Corsair and cost similar. :)

Whining at desktop sounds odd, listen to your graphics, motherboard and PSU and make sure it's the graphics card first. Also unplug any un needed devices or other electronics in case your getting kind of odd interference.

My whine is still there after my PSU was RMA'd as it was thought to be causing it.
Have a listen to this clip...
Infinity Whine
You can hear it over the fans, I try and hop in and out of game to show it

Glad I'm not the only one who can't stand it! Hope this gets RMA'd and can be sorted... Not filling me full of confidence reading through this thread and seeing the CWR tech isn't really working... This is by far worse than the strix it replaced!

Yup that's exactly what I'm experiencing. I'm now on my second card and they are identical in regards to the coil whine/buzzing/frequencies they give off.
