Islam is not united in the slightest, they have the same issues of different sects, the two biggest being Sunni and Shia, both of who hate each others guts. That hatred is causing most of the issues in the Middle East at the moment, with both sides militant groups being funded by their corresponding nations.

One thought I had is:

When they attacked New York it was because US troops were on Muslim lands.
When they attacked Bali it was because of Australians having sex.
When they attacked Beslan it was because of Russian troops on Muslim lands.
When they attacked Madrid and London it was because of the invasion of Iraq.
When they attacked Mumbai it was because of Kashmir.
When they attacked Peshawar it was because the Pakistani army were fighting back.
When they attacked Paris it was because of a cartoon.

We have to wake up and realise that seeking to appease these people will not stop their attacks. If we cave in and ban depictions of the prophet Mohammed, as some here would advocate, then they'll find some other excuse to carry out their attacks. This current global jihad isn't about anything we do or have done, it's about their hatred of anyone who isn't them - pure and simple imo.

Yeah, we should just exterminate them all. Or put them in internment camps?

Or we can realise that it is a small collective of a largely peaceful group of people that worship the same God and we need to concentrate on the extremists, not lump everyone in the same boat.

I doubt you'll find many/anyone on here suggesting we should ban depictions of Mohammed, that's a straw man argument at best.

There can only be one true Islam, can there not? Unless both sides have different aspects of the truth.
The way I see it one is true Islam, following the words of the Koran to the letter, one is siding with materialism. Much the same as the split in Christians and there understanding of the Bible in the West and where ever on the globe.
