Russia has listed transsexual and transgender people among those who will no longer qualify for driving licences.

Fetishism, exhibitionism and voyeurism are also included as "mental disorders" now barring people from driving.

Seems a little harsh, not sure how barring people who identify themselves as transsexual or transgender is exactly going to improve road safety. Not to mention the other disorders.

Whilst I have my opinions on transsexuality, this is all rather silly.

Russia is doing its best to regress :(.

I don't see why any of these 'conditions' should be a cause of dangerous driving.

Out of interest what is your opinion on transsexuality?

It's the first step to locking people away, or worse.

Nominate their particular preference or condition as a disorder. Categorise it as such.

Then make it illegal.

Then lock people up.

Page 1 of the happy dictators handbook! Simples :)

Well I don't believe men can turn into women and vice versa, and wouldn't date such a being.

Fair enough I agree on the latter point.

I don't get why Russia progressed so far with equality and rights now seems to be stripping them away.

Maybe it's to give another mental escape from the falling rouble.

And there's me thinking Russia was such a liberal country. As according to Afshin Rattansi a reporter with that un-bias news station Russia Today, which is wholly funded by the Russian state, most of the homophobic problems do not exist and are a west conspiracy.

So Putin is not a nice chap after all then. Damn I have been taken in again.

While I believe being transgendered is a disorder, probably even a disability, I fail to see how it would impact on anyone's ability to drive a car.

Rubbish.

Its just that you have to select male/female on the application, they don't mess around with all this western 'im a gay squirrel called sheila' claptrap.
