You could make a good idea from something along the lines of this

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £179.99
1 x Asus Z97 Pro Gamer Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £103.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £86.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £65.99
1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £44.99
1 x Antec VP5000 Silenced Tower Case - Black £39.95
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £14.99
1 x Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler £14.99
Total : £624.36 (includes shipping : £13.75).

This antec case seems to be cheap and silenced, so you get kind of the best of both worlds and setting the fans up well through the asus fan suite thingy bob should aid the silence even more
I'm not sure on the max CPU cooler height you can put in this case but the aidos should definitely fit as it is quite short (this one is just a placeholder)
Then your SSD is there, decent enough PSU etc etc the rest is the same
or spend more for the 330R/something similar

Slightly over budget and I am not sure he can go over the £600.

I know what your saying about SSD and I am sure once I have seen one and run one they would be no going back.

One very good thing about all these here baskets in this thread I can quickly show the lad the different connotations and see what he thinks. Plus he can read the thoughts of others and see why these suggestions were made.

cheers guys.

So thoughts on take 8 ?

Wow !

While I was doing mine you did one.. With just one difference.

Only one make of case for me. Corsair !!!

This looks good though

Question....

PSU's and cable length.

I know the top end Corsair PSU's have good cable length.

Do EVGA ?

And this Antec ? I would like to read up on that first.

No experience of Antec or EVGA

The P100 is a great case, dont overlook it.

What I maybe forgetting. This case is not for me and I should let the lad choose one. Pointing him in the direction of a decent one though.
With a good size and with good cable management.

I was gob smacked when I first read your thread at the amount you were about to spend on a PSU for what is a mid range PC! pleased you've seen the light and both your last build and stulids are excellent :)

An SSD is one of the biggest boosts you can give your PC, I like Samsungs mostly because of their Magician software and support.

Good Spec thread.

I am looking at the PSU.
The more I look the less I like the Antec.
The more I look the more I want to drop the Antec !!!!

Looking at the Corsair RM 550

This would be sufficient for one top end GPU.

£84

The Corsair RM 850 is on a special at the mo

Same price as the 750

The EVGA 750

Reads as a good quality PSU and the info on the cable lengths are good.

For me I would rather keep one of these PSU's.
So with this in mind I will show:

Over budget !!!!

But....

In my mind this only leaves one upgrade needed. the GPU.

Everything is here and all good quality, long lasting bits. Even if in two years ( guessing ) a second GPU is thrown into the mix ?

Spend it now then no need to spend again ( apart from GPU )

I will show him and get his thoughts.

You should be okay with 2x 280Xs on a 750W PSU, just don't go overboard on the clocks etc

Also the RM PSUs aren't nearly as good as the EVGA PSUs, as the internals are poor compared to SuperFlower made PSUs (worse capacitors etc). They aren't bad PSUs, just not as good. Corsair support is good though

In the end, you/he will be looking at the case pretty much any time you sit at the desk so may as well go for something you like the look of :)
