Driving last night and there was a huge pair of very bright green flashes up in the cloudy sky. If it had been white I would have said it was a typical double lightening flash. But they were distinctly green!

All three of us in the car witnessed it.

Not sure you can get green lightening so got to be either:-
1) A firework, but it didn't look like one, as it was diffused in the clouds which seemed high. But it was a very obvious quick double flash effect.
2) A meteor flash burning up?

My guess is it was lightening, but I've looked and from what I've read green lightening isn't "normal"?

Is there a fairground nearby? I went to one recently, had this floodlight that changes directions as it sweeps the sky, probably some promotional measure. It can be seen for miles and can be in any colour, only limited to what gel they use on the light.

No... The flashes seems to come from very high up. They're source seemed to be at a good 50-60 degrees!

No one would have believed, in the first years of the twenty-first century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space.

No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us.

On the night of ninth of January 2015, a huge mass of luminous gas erupted from Mars and sped towards Earth. Across two hundred million miles of void, invisibly hurtling towards us, came the first of the missiles that were to bring so much calamity to Earth. As NeilFawcett watched, there was another jet of gas. It was another missile, starting on its way.
