very lazy shopkeeper in whsmiths

More first world problems - me and my friend were practically assaulted by the mad lady that parades around Bristol with an umbrella. She had previously called me 'the rapist of all women' on a train - an anecdote I had told earlier this morning. Things took a dive south when I said 'no way, dude, its the umbrella lady' rather too loud and within earshot. She then ran at us, hit my friend with the umbrella and screamed at us until we were out of site.

Terrifying.

This has cheered me up no end.

Should have dropkicked her on the spot.

Pfft. I drove 35 miles to IKEA last night for one item which they said they had two of in stock. Couldn't see it displayed in store, went to the search computer which said see customer services. Spoke to them who could only find one, which was so badly damaged they wouldn't sell it to me. Life ruined.

Went to see a friend at work (she works in Joules, a lady's clothing store).

Some woman went and bought a pair of slippers, my friend placed it on the counter top when putting through the order.

The women kicked off about it is bad luck putting shoes on a table, big time. it went on back and forth a little bit about it is a counter, not a table, even telling her it is her prerogative to have these superstition but she cannot bring her own superstition onto others.

Some people are just weird !!! The only reason it was a "table", was only because they designed the decor of the counter in the store with a wooden top, it looks more like a chest of drawers if anything else.

Some people are just weird.

Lol, so you're friend decided to give it back to the customer in an exchange? Even as far to say don't put your superstitions on others.....my how the world has changed. I Would never have dreamed of doing such a thing at CPW for fear of a complaint, I'd have just smiled nicely and moved them to the floor in a bag or something.

If I own a shop and retire and leave my son to run it he is the shopkeeper. The 16yr old boy who works on Saturday mornings on the till isn't a shopkeeper.

The person on the tills at WHSmith isn't a shopkeeper.

I have absolutely no idea how whsmiths is still operating. The vast majority of their products have always been markedly more expensive than other competitors let alone online retailers, they have no USP that I can see and their shops are often in prime high street areas with presumably expensive rent. I haven't been into one, let alone bought anything from them for years.

Can anyone explain this to me? Or are their profits based entirely on selling newspapers and magazines?

I took a book to the counter at whsmiths and there was a self service checkout adjacent to the till (why does smiths need self service checkouts ) and the checkout woman was talking to some ladies so she told me to use the self service checkout!!!

Move on, she doesn't realise that this self service counter will replace her soon enough.
