I'm intrigued by that build - especally the weapons.

I've got gimbled beam lasers and multi-cannons, but with the emphasis on bigger cannons.

Are big beams and smaller cannons the way to go? Turrets especially?

And as a bit of context, I'm not looking to upgrade to a massive ship. I'll just keep my Explorer Cobra and develop it as much as I can. Exploring, trading and killing - that's what I do...

If there's a great weap spec it may tempt me back to the founders world so I can upgrade.

Tbh i have no idea, was suggested to me to try it,only prob i`m having is getting the multi cannons to fire as and when i want. Someone mentioned as they`re underneath on the Cobra the target has to be underneath. Might give something else a try in their place.

I personally wouldn't bother with turrets, they cost a lot, do less damage and can be badly disrupted by someone with a chaff dispenser, AFAIK turret weapons also fire at will on anything that's red on the radar (apparently but I haven't tested it myself) which could be very annoying.

Fixed weapons all do the most damage, and it'll make you better in combat if you stick to them, (or that's been my personal experience anyway)

I'm still saving up money for parts at the moment, but can anyone recommend a weapons loadout for a Cobra Mark III? At the moment I just have the two standard pulse lasers with the other two slots empty. I think I'd prefer thermal weapons, since they don't need to be reloaded.

2x fixed beam lasers on the medium hardpoints, and 2x multicannons on the small hardpoints (gimbled if you like), also remember to get a good power distributor when using bigger beam weapons.

Found a federation dock and redeemed my 104,000 for some random bounty on my second trip in elite, but now im not sure what i should be doing? There was nothing on the bulletin board and no ships for sale here, what do you guys recommend as a few early steps to get the ball rolling a bit?

CAn anyone awnser these 2 questions please.

1) is there any way of finding out what station has a black market (Hoping ingame)
Nope. I keep a manual note of any that do in my current area of operations.
2) I have been killing a few npcs with bounties saying I get the credits. But when in station its not showing I can claim any.
Possibly (check the left hand panel, second tab) that the station is anarchy? You need to be on a federation station to redeem federation bounties and empire for empire etc.
3) Wake scanners do they show where the ship jumped to.
I've never used them but I believe so.

Do many people target subsystems?? If so what ones do you go for?? In a viper atm and killing asps n other stuff but wondering whether I should be targeting subsystems .

has anybody successfully managed to play in a conflict zone for more than 5 mins without it breaking?

Attempt#1 - after 5 mins all the ships disappear and I appear to be "falling away" from the conflict zone.

Attempt#2 - I jump in and there's absolutely nothing there - I set my faction, then suddenly about 20 NPCs appear RIGHT next to me out of hyperspace, the instant I set my faction, all of them start shooting me at once.

Seems totally broken for my and a friend, and a few people were saying similar... which is a shame because conflict zones around capital ships and planets are *awesome* when they work ;_;

I've decided to try and align myself with one of the Factions, but I'm not sure which:

Empire - pro-slavery :( but cool ships.

Federation -seems a bit boring, but I wouldn't want to be barred from entering the Sol system.

Alliance - seems a bit undefined but might be a bit more interesting, and appeals to my liberal tendencies.

But apart from the basic back stories (and the Empire ships) are there any other reasons for choosing a particular faction?

Upgrades can be weird. I have a class 4E power plant. I can buy a class 3B one, which would give me more power output, and is lighter, so I could even jump further.

Kinda weird that a class 3 power plant could be better than a class 4, eh?

Very weird. Obviously a B level is that much better than E so that the classes don't matter.
Something to keep an eye on when upgrading. Was it cheaper than a similat class 4 drive?

lesson for today: dont joust with an elite python, especially when he is armed with a plasma accelerator, my poor old Asp did not fair too well, 250k repair bill

Empire FTW. They are pro-slavery but only the kind where people volunteer themselves for it. Usually when they run into debt or similar so they offer their selves to pay as such. Empire is against slave trading where the slave is not willing, their type of slaving is all about honour and treating the slaves well.

In other news, FD have just posted a worrying twitter message regarding wings.
Wings' multi-player enhancements coming soon! (date tba) #EliteDangerous Beta players get 'Wings' Beta free http://ow.ly/i/8dBYR
I have the lifetime expansion so it wont affect me but I hope to dear god that is worded wrong.

It is quite badly worded, but I read it as meaning the original beta testers get free access to the beta of the 'wings' arrangements.

The final upgrade will be available for free for everyone (though that's just me reading between the lines).
