Does anyone here actually play at framerates between 30-60fps?

Okay, so outside of G-Sync owners and monitors with high refresh rates, how does anyone game at anything that isn't 30 or 60? V-sync below 60fps feels like 25fps due to the judder whilst v-sync off introduces screen tear which is also a complete no go.

I find myself capping at 30 more and more with newer releases that need ridiculous power to hit 60 at the higher settings because a perfectly paced, v-synced 30fps feels and looks so, so much better than 45fps with the inevitable judder.

I'd love to hear other peoples opinions on this and how they play their games.

Interesting question!

I'm playing far cry 4 at the mo at around 30-35fps with v-sync on at 60hz refresh rate. I find it very playable but it is a tad stuttery, even when fraps reads 40fps it seems smoother at 30fps.

I will have a bash tonight with the refresh rate at 30hz, v-sync on and let you know if I see a difference!

I don't turn on FPS display. If I don't know how low it is then I won't be tempted to upgrade, until I can visibly see a problem. Otherwise I'd be likely to get fixated on FPS being <60, even if it was good enough to be playable.

I don't go below 60fps in any game so I mainly use vsync but there are some games like bf4 where I don't use vsync at all and get 100+ fps but I don't notice tearing or anything so maybe I am just used to it in that game.

I have in AC Unity. Purely because SLI is broken in the last patch and I'm having to use a single 980GTX for 1440p. It drops to around 40 in places, not so much 30.

However I have a G-Sync panel :p

Mostly play bf4, capped to 60fps on lowest settings. System is certainly capable of much higher but I run it this way to keep temps down.

yeh
saying you cap at 30fps so its smoother shows what a need there is for this

im pretty openly critical about how games are made now so ill try not to get started on that again but yeh adaptive sync is needed now more than ever, and its also cool to see the new screens coming out along side it with higher refresh rates

its finally woken the monitor makers up to it I hope

and maybe it will even work in reverse where games will be made to take advantage of these new higher refresh rates... I live in hope <3

It depends...

Dragon age I have capped at 45 because if it's uncapped it Texans terribly (even does a bit at 45) and vsync I get too much stutter.

Bf4 I can let run uncapped and get very little tearing.

Aliens isolation can suffer tearing, but is fine vsynced.

Elite I vsync and have no problems with.

Would love gsync or adaptive sync, capped at all times at 58/59 but no chance in hell am tying self to gpu vendor...

I must have rubbish eyes because I just let games run at whatever they run at @highest settings without v-sync and its extremely rare that I ever notice any tearing or stuttering.

What if I said that I find 30 fps looks and feels like *** and vsync introduces unacceptable levels of input lag (I have no gsync monitor) ?
In probably 90% of my games I embrace the tearing :D though there are a few where I do have vsync on.

Well I remember back in 1998 gaming at 1024x768 16bit at 30FPS with Voodoo 2 SLi was bliss. Moving to 1999 with Riva TNT2 Ultra 30 FPS at 1280x1024 32bit was heaven.
Yes I can still play games at 30FPS and I'm fine with it. Below 15FPS I personally find games unplayable.

40+ in really pretty games slow moving games im ok with, in fast games solid 60 makes me happy.

I used to be one of them Counterstrike players who couldnt leven look at a monitor without high fps and high HZ, low hz used to look dark and used to flicker, and below 100 fps used to look all staggered but after i stopped playing CS i just got used to 60 hz/fps and it looks right to me now.

I always turn vsync off because I hate the lag, but I can't say I've ever run into tearing issues (fanboys are gonna hate me, but I've only ever experienced issues with tearing on my machine with a 2GB AMD 7850).
