Not being in the club able to pony up the cash for a pair of the latest spec cards, what offers the best VFM on the used market currently and what would it be worth keeping an eye on 4-6 months down the line?

If I were buying new I'd like a pair of those OC 970s with the reference coolers, but that's highly unlikely.

290 or nv 780, bought both of mine secondhand. Albeit that was before the 970 was released and prices were a bit higher. £290.00 for the first one, £250.00 for the second one.

I've bought 2 290s (crossfire rather than SLi), one for £160 and the other for £130.

Hard to get much more performance for that kind of money.

Hmm, is that from a well known auction site Bonjour, I've not been looking that hard I admit but I've not been able to see any actually go for that kind of price? For £130 I could be very tempted to grab one for tri-fire.

Ah the wonders of the MM, at my current my posting rate I should get access sometime in 2022, wonder how much a 290 will be worth then :)

79XX and 280(x) cards are going damn cheap second hand. Second to that is R9 290.

i second this post, i had a 290, and went to 2 x 7950's for the grand total of £160 and they crushed my single card set up

on the forums the curent number one score on skydiver is on a single card is a GTX 980 @1441/2003, GFX Score 52048
my 7950's are sitting at number 31 of the dual GPU list, GPU 7950 @1175/1450, GFX Score 53389

i am not saying my setup is better but what i am saying is that 980 is a £550 card, mine from OcUK only a week ago was £160 for both with 2 game codes to sell so.... £120 all in

I would aim for MM access, I recently got it and the prices are stupid low compared the bay.

Also you can sell stuff without having to pay fees which is a bonus.

hehe, I'm aiming for it, just a long way away at the moment and I don't want to get in trouble for spamming to boost my post count. I don't normally get much time to post but work is very quiet at the moment for a few days so I'm getting to respond to more threads than usual but I doubt that'll last long enough to hit the magic 1000 mark.

Thanks for the replies.

I forgot to mention, due to my love for SFF cases I think AMD cards are probably off the menu, the blower style reference coolers on a lot of the Nvidias seems to make the most sense.

£150 for a 780? wow, I need to get myself up to 1k posts ASAP lol.

Hehe, to us sub 1000 post plebs it does sound like the promised land of bargain components. I'm not getting my hopes up though :)

Don't get too excited. They don't come up that often.
