Best value nationwide place to buy tyres?

I've got a friend who can probably fit them for me. I'd be going for 4 tyres because I'll be increasing the size of them, so I'll need 4 fitted. That's about £50 for fitting, so I'll ask my friend how much he can do them for first.

What car do you have and what reg? I ask because changing the profile by that much has a very big effect so you want to make sure you're fitting the correct tyre size that the car manufacturer has fitted originally.

It's an Audi A3. I would guestimate (being that I had one) that the proper size would be somewhere around 205/55/16, so he is actually only changing the profile to the correct size from being off.

I'm not entirely sure it would change effect the speedo. A friend told me that the speedo reads from the gear box, so tyres wouldn't have an effect (I can't work out if this makes sense or not).

Yes, an Audi A3. I think that the wheels I bought from a friend had the wrong size tyres on for me, but at the time I didn't think anything of it.

What I do know is that I went from 15s to 16s. There's been no effect on my speedo accordingly to a speedo app. I'm always about 5% out.

Changing tyre size does affect the speedo.

Although the speed sensor is on the gearbox if you increase the circumference of the wheel the gearbox will be turning less per mile.

205/45/16 to 205/55/16 will cause your speedo to under read. At 6th this equates to a 4.2mph difference

Oops phone auto correct meant at 60mph

Ah, that makes sense now :) it's about 6 mph out at 60 mph.

If you taken out a set of front tyres in 6 months then it's likely you have a problem with the tracking.

I thought I might, the wear is uneven as well, so I'll get the tracking done when the tyres are changed hopefully.

Possibly, but bear in mind the tyres he has on are absolute trash that and either remoulds or partworns, possibly both :p

I normally have a looka round get rough prices then phone a few local places seeing if they can match/beat the price fitted.

Current ones are Uniroyal Rainsport 3, previous were Avon ZV5.

Paid about 80 a corner I think it was fully fitted and balanced.
I did then pay for a full hunter alignment but that was because I had lowered the car too.

I suspect that they are both, but I don't really want to do any unnecessary driving to go around to the guy and have a go at him.

£80 a corner sounds a lot, but I guess they are 18s. I'm looking at £67/corner. It's a good opportunity for me to change tyre sizes and so I'm doing all four corners despite only needing the fronts to be done immediately. I think that should save me money in the long term...I'm hoping that's true anyway :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I have gone for Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance.

I'm going to pay for alignment as well as I really don't want them wearing unevenly, and I've noticed that the tracking is a fair way off.

I got the tyres done today, thank ****!

Any recommendations on where I can get tracking done for a good price?

Also, is there any difference between getting two or four wheels done?

Remember, fresh tyres have a 'film' on them for the first few hundred miles, to preserve them in storage.

Grip / feel will improve after the bed in period.
