Phone dilemma, what to get?

I had a Nexus 5, and wanted to change it because of poor battery life. So I bought a Lumia 930. I ended up taking this back and replaced it with a Moto X 2014. This is about to be sent back. :D

I'm not really a huge fan of Android 5, it seems very buggy in my experience compared to Android 4.4, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to get?

Phone's I don't want:
One M8 - don't like the camera or bezel
Galaxy S4 - build quality isn't up to it yet IMO
Nexus 6 - too big
iPhone 6+ - too big

Phone's I am thinking about:
Note 4 - unsure if this is as big as the N6 or iPhone 6 in your hand?
iPhone 6 - seems a decent size, but quite expensive for 64GB, from what I've read, 16GB is too small

I am currently using 10GB on my Moto X. I don't use many apps, just typical news apps, tapatalk, whatsapp etc. No games, films, podcasts or the like.

Anything else to think about? I don't really care if it's iOS or Android, I just want a phone that works as a phone, doesn't drop calls, doesn't have a poor battery, has a nice non overly saturated screen and feels nice to use with high build quality. Is it too much to ask for?

Open to suggestions.

Note 4 size: 153.5x78.6x8.5mm
N6: 159.3x83x10.1mm
iPhone 6+: 158.1x77.8x7.1mm

These three are pretty much phablets so are quite huge, the Note 4 is a little more compact but it's still quite big.

What sort of problems are you getting on the Moto X 2014? Could try a factory reset just in case to see if a fresh start helps.

Apart from the phones you mentioned, how about having a look at the LG G3 or maybe even the Z3/Z3 Compact?

flagships to be refreshed soon. if you can hold off for may be a month or two.

bad time to buy buy especially high end Android now - unless you want Nexus 6 or Note 4.

To name a few:

  • Bluetooth connection issues.
  • Calls dropping with full reception.
  • Calls sounding like they have fringe reception when I am in full bars and the recipient is on a land line
  • Voice during calls turning robotic and ineligible.
  • Unable to answer calls from lock screen 50% of the time.
  • Only charging from some USB cables.

Phone factory reset, still the same, and all (as best as I can) tested against the Nexus 5 and proven to be the Moto X causing said issues.

Eh? You dont want an Iphone 6 but your thinking about getting an Iphone 6 :D

Im holding off to see what HTC come out with next, I have the One M7 and am due for an upgrade in a couple of months so fingers crossed :)

yea seems crazy to ignore the xperia .

iphone build quality and camera quality .

will lack quality in certain apps but then the better screen res will help in other apps.

cant go wrong with either but then do either of them offer a huge upgrade over your nexus5 ?

I'm in the same boat with my Nexus 5, getting tired of constantly having to charge the thing before I'm even finished work :o

Have been looking at the Z3 but I'd kick myself if I went for it now, only to be after a Z4 when they get that to release.

Z3 is what I'd have right now if I couldn't cope any longer!

Your criteria is honestly like naming the Z3c's selling points - medium size, high end build quality, high end radio chipset, best in smartphone battery life let alone best Android and the screen is a SIPS so you have decent colour reproduction.

Definitely sounds like the Z3 Compact is a contender for you OP.

Not sure it's worth waiting for a possible Z4 Compact, the specs won't be that much better and it might also skip a generation (no Z2 Compact exists)
