Just shows you that picking the wrong direction can be time consuming. I have been trying to find a Cobra, and fittings, in Empire space and after frustration I went back to the system I'm based in and went a different way and 2 jumps later bingo.

Oh, I didn't get slaughtered... I just flew around aimlessly (once again!!!) through three different systems (because it couldn't be restricted to just one) and no show.

Starting to find this more annoying than fun.

Right now just feels like am wasting time more than anything. Which is frustrating, because I want to enjoy it but am just finding it so frigging inaccessible.

I still dont know the answer to this for myself, is being a bit of an all rounder a viable option or do you really benefit most from focusing on 1 aspect?

All 'rounder is the most interesting, I reckon.

There was a pre-release YouTube broadcast, can't remember by whom, might have been Brumster, defining half a dozen or so gameplay "disciplines".

For example, exploration, smuggling, piracy, trading and so-on.

His main point was that no single area will keep you entertained forever. You need to mix it up.

Most of my time has been BBS deliveries, BBS fetch quests (not so much), BBS smuggling missions and exploration.

I couldn't be happier. Current, and only, ship is a Cobra Mark III, which I am steadily upgrading.

Are you sitting in 30 km/s Supercruise and watching your left hand panel?

The USSs will come, I promise. Just spent my evening doing that for BBS smuggling fetch quests.

So I'm using my transport to trade and make me some credits with the plan to use those credits to kit-out my Mk3 Cobra for some bounty hunting.
How should I be kitting that Cobra out? What weapons should I be installing?
Just some pointers would be tops :)

I found class 2 multi cannon and class 1 beam lasers worked best on my cobra. Class 1s pretty much have to be gimballed due to the wide hard point placement. Class 2s can be fixed if your aim is decent, gimballed if lazy but be prepared to lose time to chaff.

Bounty hunting requires a kill warrant scanner. Higher ratings give you more distance from target to start the scan. Start with the cheapest one and see how annoying you find the 2km. If you can live with it then save money on this slot.

Other than that, A rated power distributor and thrusters make it a different ship. After that I'd go for A shields but to run all that you will probably need an upgraded power plant...

I love the cobra, with decent thrusters its a joy to fly. It's a shame the class 1 hard points are so poorly placed but its a fair compromise for all the other advantages it has.

I went the other way with Class 1 gimballed multi's and fixed class 2 beam lasers. This is my Cobra at the moment: http://eliteshipyard.nfshost.com/#/L=302,4yG4yG7sh7sh3we,316Q6u6Q5A4s5A6k,0720727RU03w03w4xo

Take the D rated one to save weight. That'll give you a 2.5km range on the scan.

Upgraded sensors supposedly give increased accuracy with gimballed weapons too, so you might want to consider upgrading them too.

I found a system that has class 4 parts for my ship. But my god the prices! The class 4A stuff is 1.5 million credits each!

I wish I could get my head around this rare trading stuff, cause it feels like its gonna take me weeks to earn that kinda cash trading in my Cobra.

Fill up at Lave/Leesti/Diso/Uszaa/Orrere

Travel to, empty and restock at... Witchhaul/Fujin/39 Tauri/George Pantazis/Zeessze/Altair

CRs as far as the eye can see.

Seems like that would be pretty hard to do with a ship that can barely do more than 13 light years laden. I found one trade route that starts in Lave. I can't even get to Lave if my galaxy maps route finder is to be believed :(

In anything less than a T6... Rare trading is where it is at for most pennies per hour.

How rares work:

Randomly:
http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/
Look at trades, pick them up, sell tham 160LY from where you bought them.

Or have a look at pre-made routes:

There are quite a few on Reddit / Frontier Forums.

Or use a calculator:

Where you can pick the systems you want.

Makes about 1 mill an hour which in a T6 you can get on normal trading.

Normal trading I use http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/ myself...

I'm starting to get a little bored of bounty hunting at the moment, time to give some trading a go I think! Viper being sold (currently worth 2MIL )

Is the galaxy map in-game reliable?

Just remembered when I was in it last night, I did a search for a system called "Kini", and it found and moved the map to somewhere very very very far away, which was not called Kini, but something similar.

So I went back to my current location in map, panned around a bit, and there was Kini, quite close by. Tried the search again to see if it did the same thing again, and it did.
