At a loss, i loved the BETA managed to get the Anaconda and a good few creds, but due to work etc i have not even fired up the game, that is until last night.

I just cant get to grips with anything anymore. Galaxy map seems empty, takes age upon age to get anywhere, what am i doing wrong is there a new comers guide anywhere ?

GRRRRRR!!! I just made a trip from Beta Hydri to Ross 775. According to Slopeys ED BPC, I could make a profit of just over 129,000 credits from trading 40 tons of Gallite.

I get to the station it said to go to and the sell price is nowhere near as high as it said it was. I ended up with a profit of 21,200!

What the actual hell?! :(

Sounds like a typo...

I normally make about 1000cr per tonne.
Sometimes 1234, sometimes 845 per tonne but also usually 1 jump away.

Making that much sounds like someone mis-typed (or miss-OCR'd) a price.

Or the data is a few hours old and someone else has done a few trades.
With extreme supply / demand at either station.

Never made more than 1600cr a tonne.

Could do with making some money, as much as I find trading extremely dull :./

The game is set up to make sharing trade routes undesirable as the more people that run that route the smaller the profits become.

I found a route yesterday that had 1500cr going one way and 1200 going the other. I traded maybe 8 cycles without impacting the prices too much (I'm only in an Asp so not hauling mega quantities), came back to it this morning and its now 800cr one way and 900 the other. I can only assume either some other human traders found the same route or the AI has been trading hard!

You cant take the results from BPC as gospel, I use it to identify candidate systems and then fly over there to check the prices out for real. Its pretty time consuming to find a good route.

I'm going to give this game a break for a month or two, I find trading beyond dull and bounty hunting/pirating isn't particularly rewarding as it is. Got a couple of million in the bank but the military progression stuff just makes no sense and seems random so no point me pursuing that.

They need to add more content and I don't mean empty star systems - which most of them are if you venture outside the central area. It's just a few planets, a sun and a station if you are very lucky but actually using that system would never be viable for anything.

Last night I was merrily shooting down various ships that were locally clean but wanted in other sectors (Anarchy system) and had accumulated a tidy little profit. A lot of the locals were starting to show up as red, so I figured one more score and I'd be on my way.

An Asp shows up and was worth a few bob, so I thought I might as well have a pop at him. I was in Cobra, so he had me outgunned, but I figured my human doggedness against his NPC stupidity would win the day.

Little did I figure that the Type 7 he was shooting at (and I was avoiding) would ram me (twice!) and kill me!

So a couple of hundred K in bounties up in smoke, plus another couple of hundred for the insurance claim. Pity, as that particular Cobra and I had been through a lot together. I know the new one will be identical, but it won't actually be the same (if you know what I mean).

I got rammed by a Sytem Authority Anaconda at a Nav Beacon. He started scanning me but got between me and my target. Totally destroyed with about 100k worth of bounties and a hold full of war booty.

Weird. I got a mission to go to Beta Hydri. It was a Federation one. Said I should go there and someone would meet me. I assumed I would get another mission for Federation progression, but there's nothing. I assume its just random? If I wait long enough will something pop up? Or can I maybe get the next mission from another Federation system?

You need to work the missions down in the bulletin board to get another, I'd suggest waiting until they fix is, the naval progression stuff makes little sense and needs sorted.

Yeah I looked on the bulletin board. Nothing Federation related it turning up. I'm just gonna keep trading for now and see what happens.

In anything less than a T6... Rare trading is where it is at for most pennies per hour.

How rares work:

Randomly:

Look at trades, pick them up, sell tham 160LY from where you bought them.

Or have a look at pre-made routes:

There are quite a few on Reddit / Frontier Forums.

Or use a calculator:

Where you can pick the systems you want.

Makes about 1 mill an hour which in a T6 you can get on normal trading.

Normal trading I use http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/ myself...

Tell us what style of play you'd like to start out with, and we'll give it a shot.

So, trading, hunting, exploring, smuggling, what would you like to go for?

Yeah, that's the one I went wrong way on (went to Beta Hydrae instead!). Run a few more missions for the Federation to get your rep up, and you'll have another 'go to place X' mission.

Don't forget that a lot of the local corporations will be affiliated with one of the big three factions - so running missions for those small outfits will also give you favour with the main faction they're aligned with.

Check the right hand screen for the local corps and their alignments.

I still dont know the answer to this for myself, is being a bit of an all rounder a viable option or do you really benefit most from focusing on 1 aspect?

I don't know, but I have heard other people asking the same question, some people were saying that it doesn't actually matter - and rankings were still occurring whether people were friendly/allied/whatever
Well I did a kill 7 pirate mission (without hitting federation) and now I'm classed as hostile in federation so when I go to stations in sol I get ganged up on by the cops and station .. How do I fix

Find a Federation outpost to go to, they don't generally have security ships stationed outside. Pay your fine with the local authorities once you get there and you should be good to go.

edit: make sure it's not an independent outpost in a Federation system, the outpost will have to be run by the Feds if you want to pay your fine.

So I'm using my transport to trade and make me some credits with the plan to use those credits to kit-out my Mk3 Cobra for some bounty hunting.
How should I be kitting that Cobra out? What weapons should I be installing?
Just some pointers would be tops :)
