HPI Check

Hey all,

Just ran an HPI check on the car I'm looking to buy, and it reports back with only one alert, as follows:

ALERT!
  • Interest registered against a previous plate

The first owner obviously had a private plate on it (reported in HPI). Is this something to be concerned about?

It says there is no outstanding finance on this car.

If it is just private plates, no. It should be fine but you should check which plates are actually used and registered on the V5.

I have mate, the current plates check out fine. I will be going back for a second visit on Saturday with a car savvy friend. The car originally had finance, presumably when it was on the personal plate, which is probably all that this is referring to. I've contacted to seller to ask if he knows.

Here are the details:

Alert Details

Plate Transfer
The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 18/01/2012
J3*** was applied to this vehicle on 01/07/2010
This VRM has been recorded as having an outstanding finance agreement
An outstanding finance agreement was recorded on 29/08/2014 against a OCTAVIA DIESEL HATCHBACK

NA** *** was applied to this vehicle on 31/10/2009
There are no interests recorded against NA*****

This tells me that that plate has been in use on two cars and the HPI check has flagged an alert of when the plate was on a diesel car. This car I'm hoping to buy is a petrol VRS.

Slight digression, do you know where the driver footwell light is location on the Mk4 Mondeo? Long shot I know!

My guess and it's only a guess is that the guy who bought the car originally put a private plate on it with finance and then when he sold it 2 years later took his private plate off, now he's put the same private plate on a new Diesel Octy on finance.

That's exactly what I'm thinking, and the current owner has no finance on it. He bought it with cash from Benfield Skoda in 2012

Yeah it sounds perfectly fine but I'd wait to see if someone who has been in a similar situation can shed light.

e; Thinking about it, I'd be getting the guy whos selling to ring the finance company and get them to shed light.

Right up in the central corner of the footwell, almost behind the rear of the centre console. Getting the bulb out is a bit of a sod.

The guy selling it had no dealings with finance, as he bought it outright from Benfield Skoda.

It tells you exactly what the situation is in the report.

The report tells you that between 2010 and 2012, J3 XXX was on the vehicle. It also tells you that subsequently, in 2014, J3 XXX was recorded as having finance on an Octavia Diesel.

I'm not sure how much clearer it can be? The private plate was taken off in 2012 when he traded the car in. Whatever car that plate is now on has finance against it but this is of no concern.

It wasn't crystal clear to me, which is exactly why I posted the question to be sure. I didn't spot the line about the Octavia Diesel right away either.
