Has anyone gone x99 ?

No performance using DDR 4 whatsoever

Early DDR of any type is crap and slow at launch. DDR3 was ridiculously expensive and some of it was like 1.8v with the worst timings ever.

When DDR4 can hit like 4ghz, then we'll be talking. But right now it's barely clocked any higher than top end DDR3.

DDR3 was the same. Compared to early 1066 DDR2 it was barely any better at the same speed or 1333mhz. Now though? it's settled in lovely.

what if your current x58 is screwed and looking to build a pc?

now a x99 wont be such a daft move if funds permitted?

If starting from scratch I wouldn't invest into X58. It's a great bang for buck platform if you do all of the workarounds but won't last much longer. I did a X99 setup (CPU mobo ram) for £630 which isn't too pricey and has all the latest mod cons.

After doing some research and looking at benchies...x58 will be around for some time yet...now of course if you have no pc and starting from scratch then buying into an old platform is not wise...but for people on x58 like myself there is no reason to change...not for now

What's your spec ?

There is no difference in games at 1333mhz DDR3 than there is with 3000mhz overclocked DDR4

Not sure what your mean?

Most X99 rigs will be used for more than gaming, though.

TBH it's sheer stupidity spending that much on a gaming rig any way. Without any other use, plain waste of cash when the 4970k outstrips the 5820k in gaming due to much higher clock speed.

But where is your argument? Would you stay on DDR3? I predict that DDR5 will have the same teething trouble as DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 and many DDRs to come.

All I'm saying that paying over the odds for DDR4 is pointless.

Of course when it becomes mainstream and the price drops then yes...but ddr4 offers nothing over ddr3 other than emptying your wallet for no gains...

If it offered performance then it's worth 230 for A 16 gb kit...it doesn't so it's not worth the premium.

The urge to move to x99 is being diminished the more I look into it...

X58 was Intel's Windows XP. :p

ive got a new x99 system coming tomorrow thanks to OCUK :)

cost me 1.2k for the whole lot minus PSU as i will reuse my current one and no GPU as i already have two 980gtx

if ur current system is broke like mine or very old, a x99 is the way to go providing u have minimum 1k to spend
