.

I'm with petplan for my chocolate lab. I think it's just under £35 a month.
They can suffer with hips and eyes so I think it's wise to pay for good insurance.

We were with pet insurance.co,uk, which turned out to be a complete waste of time, as after several years of premiums at around £50 a month, the one time we had to claim we got hit with a 40% or so excess, plus another chunk because the dog was over nine years old. They ended up paying out around £30 on a £400 bill, and we had to pay the vet first!
Now we just put money by every month for such eventualities. Moral of the story, if you are looking at insurance, pay up and go for a decent company like Petplan.

M&S for our crazy cocker, it's only about £11 per month for lifetime cover and a decent (though can't remember what) yearly claim limit

Edit £7k I think

I just got a quote for both our dogs, £47. The GF cancelled our pet insurance though a few months ago as she thinks it's better to put the money into savings & use it for any bills, I disagree.

Seems a bit harsh, it is a lot of money. I pay about £500 a year for my own private health insurance, I certainly wouldn't spend more on a pet.

A £500 private health insurance policy doesn't provide remotely the same level of cover as a pet insurance policy. So relatively it's not a lot of money at all.

Update on this:
The total bill was £3,100 and it was actually his girlfriends dog and nothing to do with him. She has now got a 3 year old dog that will never be able to get insurance and is going to have loads of problems all it's life. The other sad part is that they have broke up because the dog has to be dogsat all the time which has ended their relationship.

Sounds like they had a lot of pre-existing problems in their relationship.

Direct Line. Started at £6 per mth as a pup but my boy is now 14 and it is £36. Claimed once when he was about 3, bill was £300 minus the excess.

There's been so many exclusions over the years I don't really know what he is covered for.

I was with DL, and I moved to Pet Plan because they kept excluding stuff after my cat got ill. Pet Plan agreed that provided she didn't get ill with the main thing she had had as a kitten for 12 months, that they would remove it as an exclusion, which they duly did :)
