White phones - do they show their age more quickly?

Will scuffs and scratches show up worse on white phones than darker phones? (I am looking at a z3 compact for my wife and choosing between white or black).

All depends really. Marks and stains will show up easier. My old HTC had white parts which ended up a light blue due to the dye running out of jeans.

mine too! except it was the dye from the inside of the pouch case I had. Never again.

Depends on the materials used. My gf's white 2013 Moto X looks kinda grotty, but I expect a Z3C with it's metal and glass wil hold up better.

Z3C isn't metal, just the regular Z3 I think. If you look after it, it should be okay but the translucent plastic around the edge will likely show some grubbiness in time unless you keep it in a case of some sort. I think it largely depends on how you look after the device; if it's chucked in a bag with other stuff then it'll pick up marks, scuffs etc more than one in a case put in a clean pocket, for example.
