****Official Project CARS thread****

Thank you for taking the time to reply, sounds great to me.

Yeah no worries, I'm convinced this game will cater for the most hardcore racer on consoles. its not a drift, custom hot hatch paint your car in lovely decals type game..

its about racing around real tracks trying to shave precious seconds of each lap time and race cleanly in sports cars from all disciplines...

I just fear it won't review well enough and put folks off as it'll be a shame.. its going to come across as maybe boring to most but hopefully it finds an audience and the game does well enough .... 3 years in the making and I hope they make the 20th March release date..

I guess sms are now in developer crunch time, the updates in the pc build are coming thick and fast... its having daily updates and quite substantial ones at that..

I'm still playing an older build and enjoying the hell out of it. If what Tecman says is true, then we all have a lot to look forward to. I wouldn't worry :)
I can't wait to buy it.

I'm genuinely very excited about it, just hoping it doesn't get pushed back again...desperate for a proper racing game on this generation console

Wow still not ready then? I'm trying to be positive however that doesn't sound good to me.

Not sure when they need to have the game gold and sent to manufacturing, but I think it's going to be close, and I expect day one patches if it does make gold.

the pit stops and menus are imo still incomplete, but I have no idea how complete the code is they send to early adopters.

I could be playing weeks old code, each time they have to recompile the game, so who knows.. but each update sees the game becoming more and more complete.

I do see the potential in it all, but hmmm I knew back in November it was delayed not only for competition from a crowded month of games, but the game wasn't finished enough imo.

I'm not totally convinced for the 20th March truth told, but I hope it makes it, further delays will damage it's reputation.. but then releasing broken wont do it much good either.. : -(.

How are the console versions (PS4 and XBONE........ Not the Wii U lol) of this game coming along.

Not sure, patch notes mention x1 and ps4 development alongside pc build, so I assume they are still aiming for 20 th March 2015 for ps4, x1 and pc, as for Wii u no idea on that one..

Yeah look at Driveclub....it was truly broken at launch and tbh only the last few weeks it has become what you'd call 100%

Currently on sale for £25 in major retailers because of the farce that was it's launch

Can't wait for this game, was gutted it didn't come out in November but after the Drive Club fiasco, I'm glad it was pushed back.

I'm not into drifting, make a cool paint scheme or doing up a mini. As was said, this is pure, I'm going to love this.

Well if you want pure racing, then this is your game on consoles at the very least... you wont see any custom paint scheme screens, but you'll see screens to change brake balance or select the tires you want ... And you wont be buying parts either, the game has no currency system, tuning is not going to happen other then setting up your car to be balanced on the track.

and you won't see any silly animation getting into your car, nice as they were in drive club but you will see pit crew scrambling to fuel and put new tires on your car , and you want be drifting around the track, unless your drifting as you've got a corner wrong and need opposite lock to correct your mistake lol ....

but you will spend time chasing down lap times, or if you qualified poorly chasing down the front runners...

as I said, it's no drive club, but then it's going for a different type of racer, I just hope it gets a good audience and good support once released..

I know you mentioned the AI, I've never raced against an AI which has really pushed me. I want to fight my way up to first place, not take 1st place by the 3rd corner. I want to be bullied and knocked about but still have a fair race.

I want it to be similar to Pro Evolution Soccer, where I have to work hard for my goal and it feels special each time, unlike FIFA where I know if I press a certain button i'll get a goal 90% of the time.

Fingers crossed.

Well the ai for project cars up till around September last year was very poor, but it's since been worked on and the game st the moment uses a sliding scale with 0 % being a walk in the park, and 100% you need to race clean lines, and every second counts.

On the track, with a gamepad with the scale set to 60% for me , starting at the back in a 16 car race, at Silverstone gp track, I have Not once pushed my way to first ever, and in a 5 lap Sprint race at my skill level I wouldn't have won the race using equal cars. But I'd have worked my way up to around 5 or 3 position... At 70% ai scale, I'd have to qualify first to mix it mix it with the rent runners and keeping up means clean racing. At 80% or more I'd struggle with my skill with a gamepad.

The ai are also quite aware of where you are, they don't bash you or drive into you unless you get tangled up going for the same apex on a corner and neither of you leave room..

Cleaner you drive, less chance of crashing into ai.

Sorry for all the questions..

Let's say I go into the pits with 15 laps to go and want to get out asap so put slightly less fuel in than required. Will it be possible to get a DNF if you run out of fuel with a few laps to go ?

Will we have realistic cash mechanics or strange crashes which look anything but real like in GT or Forza ?

No that's fine, I've got access to the game, so I don't mind answering the questions. you seem interested in the game, so you want to find out more, and seeing as the game isn't really being hyped up with the major gaming news sites, then I'll do my best.

when you pit, the game pops up in the left side a menu, and when you select the one to make changes to the pre defined pit stop strategy the game pauses( it does this as its menu driven and to keep the game running you'd never select your changes before the car drives to the pit stop guys) and you can make changes...

this ranges from fuel, tire pressures, tires and even fix damage caused in the race. now, if you select less fuel then realistic to finish the race, you'll run out of fuel, race over. I know, as I tried it. also, you fit slicks and it starts to rain , then back to the pits and you are driving on ice till you get your tires changed to rain tires. so if you see it cloud over, and feel it might rain, then jump overyone and pit for rain tires..

now, if you have full damage model enabled as you can customise all damage in project cars, you hit something, you could damage the front camber, suspension , or even do enough damage that your race is over. you could l limp to the pits, controlling the car after you wreck the camber in a crash is a swine with a gamepad, again done, been there, and to be honest. fixing damage in the pits takes so long, that if you are playing on a level where you can barely keep up with the front runners then erm race is over imo.

thing is with project cars, it's all about clean racing the more you switch on. have tire wear, fuel consumption and full damage model all turned on, then it's going to challenge you at higher levels of ai or even online..

cause. dial it all back, game becomes easier and more arcade like. it's all about how you want to race... want forza type gameplay, tone it down, want I racing type racing whack up the realism..

that's the best part about project cars. it's a core racer but you can tailor it to your skill set....

and, you can setup your own car, so you feel down the straights of le mans your car gearing isn't what you like, change it... you think it understeers, change the wing settings etc..

And today's build just released via steam now has a working fuel gauge in the hud for cockpit view, so now it's easier to work out how much fuel left after talking about fuel and pits etc...

as I said, each day the game is getting new stuff, its getting closer and the menus are looking more and more complete as each update passes by...

even got a wicked intro now when game is started, sends a cbil down my arms each time I watch it. so good, really gets you on the mood for some racing...

What sort of game-mode options are available to you at the moment? Just single races/race weekends or have you got any career-type options to test?

All of them. career mode is still very much wip, and fairly bugged so I don't tend to use this, it's a tier mode, where 1 is karts right up to 7 or 8 I think which is super gt and f1 etc..

there are also quick race weekend, time trials , leaderboards, a driver network, online modes, lobbies etc..

the best part is, the game will release with all cars, tracks and modes open, there will be no progression in career mode to open up the game, so when you install the game, answer the player set up screen where it tailers the game to your likely skillset an then go your own path.

I get access to all this, but the career path is still too much in wip for me to work through, but I see it being built and from September last year its now nearly ready I'd say..

thing is over 100 hours ive logged on the pc build since it went to steam only. and I am no way bored of the game, and looking forward to its public release..
