So I am suffering from dust mite allergy after I moved to this new God forsaken apartment which is also mold infested . Just got few mold remediation experts come over and get that sorted out . They said there was no fool proof solution and I need to get some dehumidifier/air purifier put filters etc .; I'm confused.

My GP recommended this room air purifier http://go-clair.com/ for my dust mite allergy . Do you think I can use this same thing to get rid of mold spores as well ? Or do I need to get an additional dehumidifier ?

Mold thrive in damp warm conditions. May be best to get a decent dehumidifier.

I can say that the one above pulls a lot of water from the air. My folks live in an older house that has had the occasional damp / mold problem. They leave this unit on at a low setting and empty the water collector every week or so.

I'm finding it tough to imagine why your doctor would point you to a Korean gizmo rather than to find more suitable accommodation... Unless this is click bait

I keep meaning to get an air purifier and the one linked in the OP looks good. It says it traps smaller particles than a hepa filter, so should trap mold spores. I think mold spores are larger than 1 micron and hepa traps .03 micron. To get rid of the mold smell you need a carbon filter.

I found changing my carpet to laminate floor in my bedroom helped a lot with my asthma that is triggered by dust mites. Also replaced my curtains with wooden Venetian blinds, but not sure if that made any difference. I used to regularly wake up in the middle of the night and need to use my inhaler, but now I never do.

Thanks for the input. Both dehumidifiers and room air purifiers cost the same that's the reason I was leaning more towards air purifiers .Also when I checked online for dehumidifier reviews few of them said using dehumidifiers can make the air very dry and this in turn will lead to lot of static cling ... reason I'm skeptical of using a dehumidifier.Did your folks have any dust related problem ?

You need to tackle the source of the mould first. It could be down to excessive condensation within the house, which should be tackled by:
- increasing ventilation ; i.e opening windows when in the house
- ensuring that showers/bath/cooking areas are well ventilated (fans etc)
- using a dehumidifier

Mould grows where there is moisture, and the above steps should help to tackle that.

If you have mould on the walls already then clean them off with a bleach solution and ensure those areas get plenty of air-flow - i.e keep furniture etc away from there.

Get a hygrometer to check air humidity levels - if you've got mould then you most certainly will have high humidity in your house. A decent de-humidifyer will take those levels to the 'normal' range and won't leave your house air 'dry'.

TLDR: Tackle the high air humidity which is how mould grows.

dust allergy = hoover more , dust more

mould is not dust black mould is deadly (not all mould coloured black is black mould)

Mental and Neurological Symptoms From Toxic Black Mold

Black mold is also called toxic killer . You should first hire a professional mold inspector and get rid of the mold after that I think you can go ahead and use that air purifier.Without sufficient moisture mold cannot grow. Have you checked the moisture level in your house ?

Thanks for all the inputs . I was told it is a typical condensation damp. The damp air is condensating on the colder walls in the room.Got an airbrick/vent fitted to area affected . I got it fixed . As an added precautionary measure I'm using the room air purifier to prevent mold spores.

Did you use this air purifier ? I was looking for a good one online . I don't have a mold issue but even I have dust mite allergy which is driving me crazy. I vacuum every other day but despite all the extra precautions I take I wake up with really itchy eyes running nose and sneezing fits. I am looking for a small room air purifier and liked the way yours look and doesn't seem either too big and expensive. Can you tell me how you clean the filter? How long have you been using them? Has it helped with your symptoms?

Plants are excellent helping improve air quality :)

I think indoor plants only help in improving the overall air quality but air purifiers are different right ?Indoor plants cannot trap dust prevent dust mite allergy. Also having plants can increase mold growth. Sometimes mold grow in mold pots.

I have been using the Clair air purifier for nearly three weeks I don't notice any mold at home. I am not sure if it is directly linked to the air purifier because I had a lot of mold proofing done but I feel it has helped with my dust mite allergy. I no longer have red eyes and sneezing fits when I wake up.

This is how the air filter is looking after three weeks of continuous use (I kept it switched on 24/7)
