Just got a new pair of glasses from Specsavers. I absolutely hate glasses, but I decided to give them a try again. For the past 2 years I've just been using contacts. The thing I hate most is speckles of dust you get on the frame, which irritates the hell out of me because my vision isn't clear.

I'm sitting here watching TV and I can see there's stuff on the frame, and it doesn't matter how much I wipe them with the velvet, its still the same.

Ugh.

Also when looking at my tablet it looks like the on screen keyboard is coming out the screen. Feels all 3d. Ughhhhhhhh.
 
Get yourself some distilled water and isopropanol mix the two in a spray bottle add a microfiber cloth, sorted.
 
Apparently you have to give your eyes a rest once a week with contacts. I haven't done that once in 2 years, but I probably should. Also my glasses prescription is stronger than my contacts, so things should be clearer with glasses.

If the contact lenses strength was the same as my glasses, I'd just stick to contacts.

I've worn glasses for 35 years without ill effect and have never had contacts as cannot be bothered with the faffing aorund. Microfibre cloth removes dust/dirt from the frames and leses - easy.
 
You can order new contacts with your glasses prescription (certainly I had no objection from an online lens retailer in the past)

They wouldn't change it for me in Specsavers, even tho I asked why my eyesight changed, but contacts remained the same. What's the reason behind it?

I'd prefer just to remain using the contacts I get from Specsavers.
 
Specsavers don't actually manufacture contacts (check here for the real manufacturer for each specsavers type)

They won't change it for you in store because you only paid for a glasses appointment I presume

It's because Specsavers use the cheapest lenses possible, and don't put decent quality coatings on them.

This simply isn't true. Your vision should be corrected to be the same unless in certain circumstances (for example astigmatism and toric lenses). Your glasses prescription is stronger because the refractive error is different, because glasses are not sitting ontop of your eyeball.

I have astigmatism, maybe that's why they kept my contact prescription the same, but altered my glasses? I think my right eye just got slightly worse, which is what has changed on the prescription.
 
I've got an astigmatism in one eye, can't wear contacts as my eyes are always irritated with them regardless of which one I try. Glasses are fine. I get rimless ones from a local company rather than going to one of the big expensive places. Essentially get your eyes tested, go to him - job done.

Last pair were less than half what Boots wanted to charge.

I was told (years ago) that glasses were less likely to have a detrimental effect on the eyes as they're more likely to be an accurate prescription rather than a "best effort" as well as not blocking oxygen from the eye. Probably rubbish though :)

Ok but even in the case of astigmatism your glasses prescription will be stronger.
 
My specs and contact prescriptions differ, not much though, and I was told that they would be because contacts actually sit on your eye whereas specs don't.

You'll get used to dust, etc on specs over time.
 
Buy the lens cleaner from Specsavers, I got a large bottle for like £3.

Also, if you're not happy with your purchase in 3 months, you could return it to Specsavers. So if you feel contacts suite you better, by all means you don't have to stick with glasses.
 
I was told the best thing to use was normal washing up liquid - use warm water and a small blob of fairy. Then use a microfibre cloth to get streak free finish.
 
Wouldn't touch Specsavers with the proverbial, missed my better half cataract not just in one eye but both. Then charged her 300 quid for glasses.
