How I am currently playing.

Spreadsheet on left for taking notes. Not sure how much this is helping right now... but still

Browser right, for popping here and general "how to do XYZ" :D

So glad I did not manage to sell my K750 keyboard, as my main keyboard is wired and sitting on the keyboard shelf, so this sits nicely between my throttle and stick without needing yet more wires!

Mouse can thankfully be wired or wireless, so that just gets unplugged and moved up when playing.

The 40 inch philips is coming in VERY handy for this way of playing. Still get to run game in 3840x1280, not only giving a very wide FOV, but leaving plenty of space for browser windows, etc :)

I can relate to the bowl of cereal. Just missing the cup of coffee now.

Can also relate to dat der desk cereal.

Eyetrip, don't be too disheartened. Sounds like you need to head to an an anarchy system and rack up some easy kills - Sidewinder should be able to take out Vipers and Cobras, to the tune of 7k+ each. No police there

####! ####! ####! ####!

Was attacking a wanted person, then a frikkin security vessel flew between us taking damage from me.

Managed to kill the wanted NPC, but the security vessel was now after me... needless to say, I could not get my FSD charged in time. Another 5 seconds would have done it.

Is there a way to call a cease-fire?

###### off now cause it wass down to its ##### piloting.

Edit:
Ah ####

Not only that, but had a mission to kill 7 pirates (WHICH I SPENT FRIGGING AGES ON) of which I only had one left to do.... now that ###### gone as well.

####### idiot security pilot.

####!

I got rammed by a security Anaconda who was scanning me as I flew past during an attack run on a high bounty target. Lost everything including a hold full of valuables. I was so annoyed I rage quite and cleared my save. In hindsight I should have just kept the save as I had 197 confirmed bounties to my name. My new save now has 145 and Novice level.

It's not easy starting from the bottom with a Sidewinder and 1000Cr. I think those who moan the game is too easy are flying around in fully kitted Cobras/Vipers/Pythons etc. I saw one guy complain that Elite Dangerous was too easy and he was ironically flying around in a fully kitted Python.

I guess that was one of the benefits of backing the Kickstarter, having more starting options. I really wish I had gotten around to backing the game before time ran out. Starting in a Cobra would have been nice :p

Question.

(this has been bugging me for ages)

Does anyone here randomly suffer from "lo-fi" graphics? particularly when inside stations, for example the textures will go to a really low resolution, and I mean really low (like 640x480) for a few seconds or a minute, then flick back to how they should be, so the game randomly looks terrible then looks good again..?

really starting to bug me now,

Have not seen that happen? You sure you're actually playing the game and not just watching loads of YouTube videos thinking you're playing? That'd account for that.

Noob question, but I saw a couple of missions on the bulletin board asking for silver/gold, and paying good money. Where would you find that or even begin looking? Would you have to buy it, or mine it from asteroids or something? Which means buying equipment for that I suppose? Same goes for bounty missions, wouldn't stand a chance in my basic Sidewinder, but I've no money to upgrade. Bit of a catch 22 it seems, with no money how do you get money when getting money seems to require money in the first place lol!

It seems to happen all the time and is totally random, for example in the outfitting menu I can scroll back and fourth between hardpoints and livery and I can see it changing, sometimes it stays the same for ages though,

You would use the galaxy map and filter by trade routes for silver/gold in order to see where to buy them from. Frontier have a set of video tutorials available from the game launcher, here's the one for the galaxy map:

A good way to make money at the beginning (eg if you can't afford to buy the gold/silver above) would be to accept missions where you are given goods and simply need to transport them to another station.

A couple weapon upgrades for your Sidewinder then means you could then sit at a nav point and shoot anyone (well, small ships) with a "wanted" status. Once you've scanned them, have a look on your left hand panel to see how much of a bounty they have on their head and what their combat rating is. I.e. maybe don't attack anyone with a Dangerous or Elite rating ;)

Quick question. Does cargo transfer over when you buy a new ship? I'm at Altair right now and I have enough for an Asp. But I also have a hold full of rares ready to ship to Lave. Don't want to buy the ship now if I lose all my cargo.

No, if you try to buy a ship and you're carrying cargo, it pops up a message saying "Please empty your cargo hold first" or words to that effect :)

Well darn! Guess I'll need to find somewhere that sells the Asp in or around Lave then :p

I imagine you should be good to buy an ASP in pretty much any high-tech economy, as they tend to have most decent stuff,

ASP is an awesome ship, one of my faves - has great hardpoint spacing and loads of cargo space - true multi role ship, AFAIK it also has the longest jump-range of any ship in the game with the top FSD.

So i'm hoping they add the docking bay, as I've not seen it in any station yet..

Wouldn't a first for an Elite game: don't know if you're old enough to remember Frontier First Encounters, but the Argent's Quest ship in that game came with a parasite fighter complete with hyperdrive and pulse laser!

Well I say parasite fighter, but in truth it was more of a uprated escape capsule... but the point is that the concept isn't unprecedented for an Elite game.

Can anyone recommend me the next step up from a Viper, combat wise? I'm not sure a Cobra is a step up, as it seems to have the same weapons.

Clipper seems like a long haul, but I'm not sure what's capable in between. Asp perhaps?
