I've had my Vauxhall Corsa SXi for 4 years now, however, the time has come to put it to rest. Welding needs doing every MOT and it's just getting silly. As it is/was my first car, I'm not well versed on buying cars so I'm not really sure what to get. Is there much difference in general running costs for different makes? As in parts and what not.

All I know is that we want a 5 door hatchback, < 2L, petrol, have 2k to spend and would appreciate any advice or guidance offered.

For 2k and a 2 litre petrol inwouldn't look any further than the mk1 Focus. There so reliable and have aged better than most other cars from that era. If u could stretch to 2.5k you might be able to get a 2005 mk2 Focus.

He's sick of welding and you guys are suggesting a Focus for 2k.......
Won't be long before he's back in that vicious circle then!

I've owned 3 Focus's and never had a spec of rust on any. For a 2k budget there's little else to buy that's as reliable as the Focus.
