Boomerang rentals possibly compromised

A nice little sum up of what BG have done since the potential breach...

Long story short, BG isn't going to EMAIL/ALERT YOU about the issue and anyone potentially affected. However, if you were affected, you have to EMAIL/ALERT THEM. They'll give you a nice 1,200 bonus point over 3 months. And a Legend status.

If you've cancelled your account and affected? Tough.

Well I have emailed them and have not received a reply... STILL..

Aye, I've sent mine dated 13/01 when they released a statement that not many people have complaint directly to them - they totally ignored Social Media / Reddit's complaints, ironically.

Still nothing too.

LOL so they ONLY inform people by Twitter/Reddit but then do not take complaints on those media seriously?.. WOW! As much as I have enjoyed the service I really do not see any hope for such a incompetent shady company.

Shouldn't laugh but lol, seriously. This company has no idea.

I may or may not have been affected by the leak. Time will tell, one thing I do know is I won't be using boomerang rentals for much longer.

Edit: I have been affected, checked shortly after my post. £60 in O2 top up.

Based on what is already known this definitely come through Boomerang rentals. My old card which had been replaced late last year was the one they used. I hadn't updated my card details on Boomerang to the new one, after this I'm glad. No idea why the old one was still active for so long. I doubt I'll be giving Boomerang my new details!

For a company of their size confidence in the product is everything.

In a situation such as this and the way it's been handled I can see them losing business.

Due to the nature of the data leak all customers should certainly have been informed with the information stolen and that they may or may not have been affected. Let the customer decide what to do with that information.

If I was a Boomerang customer - Id be emailing the ICO right now and informing my card issuer so they are on the lookout for strange charges

ps3ud0

I had a free month to redeem for dying light but now that's delayed I'm just cancelling now. No point in redeeming the free period as there are no games of interest for a while now.

I'm buying dying light - rental was just a 2nd copy for wife but if I buy digital we can both play it together so may just go that route to get rid of this subscription.

Bank blocked 3 transactions that I know of so nothing came through as I warned them in advance thanks to this thread. I know I'd have got the money back but informing them beforehand is less hassle and was able to get a new card already.

I cancelled my subscription just before all this happened. It's rather disappointing that because of that they won't add any points or anything should I reactivate it in the future. With that attitude I think I'll leave it inactive.

I've not got much choice. I only bought the Xbone for game rentals - I'm concentrating on building up a PS4 library (so many games to buy!) so I have to keep with Boomerang otherwise it's just an expensive brick.

Dame! Just noticed two O2 pay and go top ups out of my account. One for £10 and other £20. Cancelled my Boomerang account months ago though, been on the phone to Lloyds and they are well aware of this issue due to a number of phone calls.

Surely the price you pay for boomerang you could buy the exclusives for xbox one?

Seems to be another company that rents games.

I prefer to blast and trade than to rent but some of you might be interested.

Subtle pop at BG recent event or have they always done so? :p

I had a text while in college today to say someone has tried to use my credit card to purchase £400 worth of goods. My bank blocked the transaction but I found out after ringing the bank earlier they have used my credit card to purchase approximately £2k worth of goods.

I don't use my credit card for much but Boomerang is one of the few companies I've used my credit card with.

I've had a quick read through this thread so I apologize if someone has already mentioned this but is there anywhere I can complain about a company not storing personal information securely? - a financial ombudsman type place.

Sorry to hear that. I suppose your bank may be able to help advise regarding complaining, but the crux of the matter is one of proof - sadly I can't see how you (or anyone) can actually prove the card details could've only come via Boomerang. Card fraud happens a lot, sadly.

Mother Trucker!

It's not just my card details compromised. Someone tried logging into my Battle Net account as the email and password was by chance, the only 2 accounts with the same password.

Thankfully it failed verification. Argh.
