Nintendo 3DS XL from Japan

Hey guys,

I'm off to Japan in a few days and I was wondering if I got a Nintendo 3DS XL if it would work in the UK and if I would have any issues.

Would I need to do anything to get it working in English and what not? I was just wondering if this was at all possible?

It's NTSC and region locked, so unless you want to import all of your games from the US you're out of luck.

Thats annoying, but expected... but if I do import from the US then will it work? Will I need to change anything to get it to english?

Nope, still the same. 3DS is Nintendos first handheld to be region locked.

So basically if I did buy one I would have to buy Japanese games?

The only place you can import a 3DSXL from and still be able to play UK games is Australia.

You should only import a 3DS from other countries if there are games in that region that will never be available in the UK.

Didn't realise NTSC-U and NTSC-J weren't compatible either. They're released on the 13th February anyway or you can import from Australia. By the time you get back it'll probably only be a week until release so it shouldn't be too hard to hold out
