Will UKIP win its first seat in parliament tonight?

Selective quoting? Well done ;)
Don't forget the rest of the article...

But the situation in many other EU countries is very different.
The research suggests some 14,880 Polish citizens are claiming Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) in the UK, compared with just two British citizens claiming similar benefits in Poland.
Some 4,880 Lithuanians claim JSA in Britain, while no British citizens at all are on the dole in Lithuania.
The study also found that no British citizens are claiming unemployment benefits in Romania, while 1,040 Romanians are on JSA here.
Other countries with large numbers of citizens claiming JSA in the UK include Slovakia, Portugal and the Czech Republic. In total they have almost 17,500 citizens on the benefit. By contrast, just 261 Brits are on the dole in these three countries.
In total, the study found that about 65,000 EU citizens are claiming JSA in the UK.

Yep I saw this in the guardian at the weekend, this totally blows ukip's argument out the water

LOL, you really are the forums jester MrMoonX

Bloody Brits stealing their jobs

The number of Brits claiming benefits in these countries is higher than the number of their citizens on the dole here. Blooooooody Scroungers! Send them back!

No it doesn't, it helps it.

The Guardian report is not saying "Brits claim more benefits abroad than non-Brits claim in Britain", it is saying "We've cherry picked a selection of countries [they just call them 'richer EU states'] where Brits are claiming more in benefits than the people from that specific country claim in Britain". It doesn't even claim Brits are the primary claimers in any of those countries.

The cause of this though is possibly right up UKIP's street. EU countries aren't as willing to employ 'foreigners' as we are meaning Brits abroad often end up on out of work benefits.

When I lived in Sweden for a short while, I couldn't get a job. I tried everywhere but even McDonalds turned me away because I couldn't speak fluent Swedish. UK McDonalds, in my experience, certainly don't see language barriers as a problem here if it means cheaper labour.

The report also doesn't contradict the possibility that Brits living in "richer EU states" are struggling to find work (and hence have to take out-of-work benefits) because they are being undercut but other foreign workers from the 'poorer' EU states (which is UKIPs main argument here).

Wow i thought it was about having to repatriate the 30k odd people because they wouldn't be paying their benefits anymore.

I guess it reads many ways.

Yet why is it a problem for you when current politicians change their minds?

I wondered this too. They were bemoaning the changes that certain parties made to their policies and various failed promises. Yet when UKIP change their stance on an issue we're expected to just go 'well done sirs' and accept it?

Frankly it makes 'kippers' look stupid.

The Guardian article is a typical left-wing straw-man, it is saying "Look, British people go to other countries and claim benefits so you cannot complain about people coming here doing the same" and thus implying some kind of hypocrisy, but as far I understand it UKIPs argument has never been 'The Brits are all perfect and foreigners are all bad'.

In fact, I don't even think UKIP talk that much about immigrants claiming benefits (that tends to be more of Britain First thing) but rather that British jobs are being effectively auctioned off to the lowest acceptors of pay who tend to come from the poorer areas of the EU.

Brits claiming out-of-wok benefits in France has got nothing to do with wages in Britain being driven down by rules which give big businesses in this country an almost unlimited supply of cheap labour from Eastern Europe.

Still got no arguments other than "anyone who doesn't agree with me is an idiot" I see :D

Not at all, plenty of people don't agree with me over issues and put forward cogent arguments to support their viewpoint, in this case it's because generally kipper supporters make themselves look stupid all on their own ;)

And then again when challenging counter points get put to supporters against UKIP policies on here and get ignored time and time again, it does sort of point to the same conclusion.

So there are posters on here who openly and actively support UKIP, like, for real?

I thought it was some sort of ironic forum joke.

There were people who supported the BNP before that!:(

Sadly, OCUK still has a very large extreme right user-base

Considering they often hit 20% in the polls their popularity seems to be on par with the Libdems before the last election

If you don't cheery pick your polls and instead take an average, at the moment UKIP is more like 13-14%, which is about the same as LibDems +Greens. The Greens are gaining ground quite rapidly,at the expense to a certain degree but not completely to the LibDems, while UKIP voter percentage is reducing over the last 6 months.

In early 2010 the LibDems were well over 25%, so UKIP are a long way behind.

The most recent YouGov poll (i.e. cherry picking the newest), puts the Greens at 10%, LD at 8% and UKIP at 15%.
