Mini vs Fiesta for the doris!

Well at least you were right to flame my entire post for one point then hey :p Ignore all of the other points I made.

The combined consumption figure on both cars is pretty much the same. The interior of the new Mini is noticeably better built and more modern than the Fiesta (Which is not too harsh on the Fiesta, it's a 2008 car after all and the Mini was all new last year). The servicing is cheaper on the Mini as you would purchase TLC. It'll hold it's value better, etc etc.

The Fiesta is better value if you ignore depreciation, and better equipped for the money. It has a slightly bigger boot. The trouble with the Fiesta is that its showing its age now, an all-new model will be here very soon so buying a new version of the old one now just seems silly when other cars are so much more fresh.

New Fiesta isn't coming until 2017 and to be fair it was only face lifted 2 years a go. It still looks as good if not better than most of it's rivals (have you seen the new Corsa?! Bleurgh!)

For me personally the Fiesta is a nicer looking car both inside and out. The mini's exterior is horrid and whilst the interior in the new model is nicer, it is still not for me (i don't like all the round dials everywhere).

From what I have found spec for spec.

Fiesta cost nothing for road tax
Mini costs £20

Fiesta service plan £400 for 2 years
Mini service plan TLC for 5 years £350 very good value

Spec both have air con, Bluetooth, elec windows the usual stuff.
Fiesta has the heated front screen which is very good, the mini has a heated windscreen washer thing & heated mirrors, the mini in its basic pack didn't have alloys but with my wife who loves kerbs it makes sense not to have them!

Just going to look at them again, moving up from a tiny ford ka makes both of these cars bigger and they do both feel good on the road not sure what handles better I suspect the fiesta.

My thoughts - don't cry troll.

If she wants to be taken seriously, get a quality car, preferably of the German make. A C class or A4 or even a 3 series. It oozes class, and is not to expensive, in fact quite cheap. Remember, people form an opinion on you within 3 seconds of seeing you. A ford fiesta or mini is just too common, why buy something where the person in front of you or behind is driving it.

Look at a 1 Series 120i or an A class 220/AMG if you have the budget to stretch

Not troll btw, image is everything - you wouldn't buy a £30 suit would you if you had to use it everyday? So why buy trash.

What level of discount is available on the mini? Just from a quick look it's £13.75k list before you add the TLC pack (circa £350?) or any options.

Fiesta zetec ecoboost circa £10.5k from a broker without any options, assuming fords equivalent service plan is circa £500 that's still a big gap to make back up in lack of depreciation.

It's not apples v apples of course as one is a discounted price, but aren't mini's notoriously difficult to get decent reductions on?

Sorry but it's hard not to cry troll when your post is that stupid.

Edit - OP, both are decent cars, I think this is down to personal preference really (which do you prefer the feel of and which do you prefer the look of). Like others have said, mini will hold value a bit better and has better warranty.

Yes, I have read and experienced this. So much so that most won't go under list and the dealers have to call Mini just to give a £500 discount.

I have just bought a new ST and a Cooper S was on my shortlist, as although I'm not keen on the looks, I am aware that residuals are very good.I went to a local Mini dealer and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of coming under list whilst I was there. Most brokers also offer very little, if anything off list on the Cooper S.

However, I've got £3200+ off list on a new ST-3 meaning an equivalent Cooper S, spec wise (assuming I couldn't get much if anything off list) would be about 6-7k more!

I intend to keep the car for at least 5 years and I strongly doubt a 5 year old Cooper S will be worth 6-7k more than a 5 year old Fiesta ST!

Also, with residuals, who is to say a Mini's residuals/popularity will still be as good as it is now in 5 years time.

Decent?! Decent is an A5, A6, 5 series, Q7, rs3, M3 ect, good is a porshe, Maserati, RRSP, Bentley GT ect.

OP take my advice, get something better.

Not troll again I should note.

What an utterly absurb thing to say. "Don't buy this mass produced vehicle which loads of people own" - "instead by this other mass produced vehicle that loads of people own".

It isn't like you are buying anything unique by buying a 1 series or an A class!

"Oh an Audi A5, that is so rare, it must have been at least 200 yards back since I saw another one of them!"

I don't have a 1 series or A class, but I'm saying its a ton more better than a Fiesta which my sister had for 5 months when she past her test at 17.

Let's use an analogy. A fiesta is like a Nike school bag, when you get into the working world, are you going to use that School bag? Or get a nice Gucci linen TB, or a Saint Laurent brief, or at worst, a real leather work bag. I'm just saying, freedom of speech and all, pay a bit more for something a lot better.

Looking at getting a new car this week - looking at hatchbacks below 17k not new, pref up to 2 years old.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking at? Had an Golf, then Astra, thinking about getting a good specced golf or scirocco?

Please don't spend £20k at the age of 19 on any car unless £20k represents a small percentage of your yearly salary.

Hate to say it but my parents are, and don't think they will stretch to 20, It's more around 16-18 as we was looking at GTC's in that range.

Just sayin.

19 year old on forum who seems to have a 17k car bought for him by his parents, comments on thread about affordable small cars saying they should get an A5 or 3 series instead because they are more unique....whilst all the while driving a 320d (probably the most common car on any motorway)

The 320d cost more then 17 FYI. And also its soon to be replaced in two months by a brand new X6, are they common by your books?
