DX12 news-Windows 10 upgrade free for owners of Windows 7 and 8.1

Meh who cares if it's free. Im going to see what PC gamers think of it before I leave win 7 for gaming reasons and if the desktop is back to normal with 0 metro rubbish on as tiles just takes up screen space and is a stupid idea for a desktop environment. Might be OK for mobile or tablet but not PC desktop usage.

Also they say win 7 isn't getting dx12? AFAIK it was as ms said it was awhile ago. So unless they say I'm gona keep to the thought that it is.

Well either cry in a corner and stick with DX11 forever, or upgrade to 8/10 and enjoy dx12 titles in the future.

It's inevitable that you will have to upgrade to windows 10 in the future, so suck it up.

Windows 8.1 already gives more FPS in games than Windows 7 does, so it's win win.

so is consumer preview coming in a week? any news on that??
my tech preview is showing no updates yet :(

yeh windows 8 is a little more nippy than windows 7, i still have a couple big issues with the way it copies files but that could just be a very personal thing to me :(

Didn't it have a much better file explorer/transfer system than Win7? I've never used it but I remember hearing that in the buzz before it came out

So what current GPUs will support DX12? Don't really want to replace my 7950... granted it will take a while before we see DX12 games but I just like having the support there :p.

well you can pause it and stuff now, forget what else they changed
but one thing it wont do for me is the auto rename
there's an option in windows 7 file explorer "auto rename on move" when 2 things have the same name, cant find that option anywhere in 8 lol

for me they changed that part for the worse, and i use classic shell for the menu

Yeah, though if its an upgrade key you will have to run the upgrade software meaning you need to have win7/win8.1 installed to then be able to install win10

So if it borks totally and you want to do a clean install, you have to install win7 first

Will probably go for this, I didn't even bother with W8 so probably about time to move on before getting too far behind and locked into an old OS like one of those XP fogeys lol.

Abyone can clarify this free for a year business? What do you have to pay after a years use? Because this sounds too good to be true from microsoft!

I'm pretty sure it's just that you can transfer any Win7/8/8.1 licenses to a Win10 license within a year of the release, after the year has lapsed then you must pay to upgrade any further licenses.

Microsoft have done some silly stuff but not even they would charge a subscription to an OS

Windows 8.1 is perfect for me... I never have to use metro it looks exactly same as Windows 7..

Start8 is an amazing little program... People just like living in the past.

I really like metro UI
But since I seen windows 10 new menu and also reinstalled windows 8.1 couldn't be bothered to re-setup my menu again, I installed start8 and couldn't be happier.

Am now ready for the windows 10.. If recent history is right this should be a killer os everyone is looking for.
