I'm currently using basically a TV for a monitor (it's 1900x1200 so not a proper tv) and I saw this was on sale and I'm really tempted. I looked at a couple of other threads on this forum and just had a couple of questions.

is the increased resolution going to cause me any hassle with my rig ? I can't remember which i7 I've got so i'll have to look it up when i get home, but I've got 16GB of RAM and a KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC I got from OcUK just after Christmas.

I mainly play WoW, Started heroes of the Storm, maybe some DoTA2 and also likely to want to play GTA5 when it comes out on PC.

Also what is OcUK policy on dead pixels ? Because I'm ordering online I can always just send it back within 7 days (obviously in same condition it came in) for a refund right ?

Edit : whilst I was typing this it seems the sale has finished, and I don't really want to drop an extra £60 on it :( i thought the sale would run for the calendar week :( :(

Edit 2 : Well fair play to OcUK, I phoned up, asked nicely and got it for the price it was an hour earlier. Don't know who I spoke to on the phone, but thank you ! Another reason good customer experience to add to my OcUK list.

I have this monitor arriving today. I'll only be using with my PS4 because I currently don't have a PC. Because of reading the issues people have been having with this monitor, I was on the fence about buying.

I'm told a 970 can handle gaming at 1440p so the rig should be fine. Coming from a TV you will probably be fine with the 4ms. You also play the type of games I'll also be playing when I get my PC.

It isn't as fast as a TN panel but I'm told the quality of the image compared to them is much better due to this being IPS.

I have heard people say that OCUK don't class dead pixels as a fault unless there is 3 or more dead pixels. I guess you could just send the monitor back and keep ordering until you get a good one. I just hope mine turns out okay.

That's some great customer care :)

I'm too old for FPS games of any skill so I tend to play games that don't mind a slower response time. I checked their pixel policy and its some ISO standard thing which is fine, so long as i dont have a bright white pixel in the middle fo the screen im not that fussy.

Fingers crossed, it'll be awesome with no dead pixels :D

Get my 2nd one of these monitors today, after having to return the first for having bad backlight glow. I am still getting some on the new one, so I hope you don't get any with yours! I am either incredibly unlucky or very picky! I think im just going to keep this one though..... cant be bothered to keep returning monitors, especially as the price has gone up! The colour reproduction is incredible though, and contrast is very good. Very happy with the panel, just a bit of a bummer about this damn glow!

I was messaging someone else in trust last week. He mentioned that the monitor did have some glow but that was mainly noticeable in dark environments. Do you have a picture of how bad this is?

If I could take a decent picture of it without it looking too overexposed I would, but thats really hard todo with just my phones camera. Yeah, you dont notice it unless its dark, and If im not looking for it, I dont really notice it. Still a pain though! I might drop Samsung an email and see what they can do, apparently you get 3 years on site warranty with it, since OCUK wont deem it an issue, but I am pretty happy with it none the less! Hope yours is ok :)

I have been very pleased with this screen so far, I got it on Monday.

I came from a 4 year old 24 inch Samsung so the difference is huge :)
Haven't noticed any issues with games yet, I am loving the extra screen space though!

so now I'm home i checked my CPU and it's Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge)
My old monitor is a Samsung T260HD Monitor/TV so hopefully it'll be a good replacement, for under £320 it seemed like a really good choice

I got this just after christmas, when also on offer (it's pretty much always on offer) and it's fantastic. Out of the box is near perfect calibration too, which is nice! I can't get it greatly different than standard, though brightness does need to go down a tad.

I seem to have gotten lucky and don't have any real bad glow (if any) that I have noticed. I also game pretty much in a very dark room.

I have came from a pretty rubbish free dell monitor.

Nice, glad you had a good one! Though pretty annoying....haha :P. Dont get why I have been so unlucky then in having two monitors with pretty bad glow! If I do return this one, I doubt I will go with the same monitor again

So I've been gaming on my PS4 tonight using my new monitor. Out of the box, this monitor is wonderful. I did a dead pixel check and couldn't find any. I think I know what ips glow is now. It isn't looking that bright and definitely not intruding my vision, it is noticeable on blacks though.

Am I correct in thinking that even though I currently see no dead pixels while gaming at 1080p,i may still have the possibility of dead pixels once I've switched to a 1440p source?

Someone feel free to correct me, but if you dont have any dead pixels in 1080p, you wont have any in 1440p. The 1080p image is just being stretched to fit the display, so if you dont have dead pixels, you dont have dead pixels! As far as I know anyway.....:D

Im going to trial this monitor for a couple more days, see how I feel after then and decide what todo after I get my refund for the first one through. I do really love this monitor, just dont know if its wise to go for it again a third time!

A dead pixel is a dead pixel regardless of resolution. Changing sources should have no effect on it.

I've got the 32" model of this and I absolutely love it, hands down my favourite tech purchase of the last year or two.

That's good to know. Is the 4ms from out the box, or do you have to select game mode and change the response time to fastest in the settings?

Game mode doesn't seem bad on this but using that means you get locked out of the settings except for brightness.

4ms is an extremely unrealistic estimate of best-case response time - ignore it. Game Mode has no impact on pixel responsiveness and simply messes up the image. Trust your own eyes, not marketing bull. :)

Does that mean the panel is operating at much more than 4ms? Sorry, I'm sort of new to the whole quality monitors and such. What does Game mode do then if it doesn't serve any purpose?

I was playing Plants v Zombies on the PS4 and must admit, not only did it look much better. It also felt faster out of the box than my 5/6 year old LCD Samsung TV.

It means that some pixel transitions occur considerably slower than 4ms. Pixel transitions don't happen on monitors all at the same speed - it depends on the shades involved. But don't get hung up on the figures, it doesn't really matter. :)

Game Mode increases sharpness and saturation whilst altering gamma so that dark areas become more visible. This essentially makes the image look less accurate and upsets shade variety - but it gives an aesthetic that some users like with some exaggerated, bright and eye-catching colours.

So monitor arrived and all set up now.
I think I can see what people mean about IPS glow or whatever its called, in that when the screen is totally black the bottom corners have a white glow to them. I dont find it too much of a problem to be honest so I'm going to keep it, no dead or stuck pixels.

Coming from my old screen which was a TN panel, this thing looks incredible. I had to turn the brightness down but wow, everything is so vivid and all my games look way better. Not had any issues running games at the higher resolution either so im pretty happy with it !

Good news :p

Mine is the same. It is noticeable but, not enough that it would put me off any games I'm playing, even if I was in a dark area.

I think with this monitor something in the settings may be a little off. Something to do with the Smart brightness or whatever it's called. While playing FIFA, my screen can sometimes just go a little brighter than it usually is. Not too bright but it's enough to notice. I need to play around with settings more. Might need to change from custom to normal?

Another thing I would say is keep Game Mode off. Also keep the refresh rate at Normal. When I had this set to Fastest, I got ghost imagining on FIFA. I can't be 100% sure that was the cause. but since changing back it seems to have gone.
