Wii U - Yes or No for a PC gamer?

I game solely on the PC these days. I've wanted a console for a while as I've got the itch. I recently sold my 3DS and I'm getting a huge craving for MH3U. Which was ported to the Wii U. Also, I never played Zelda Wind Waker...

Aside from the above titles, are there any other good fun coop titles that make this console worth while?

Also, I can't seem to find the ability to buy another Wii U screened controller, is it one per Wii U? As a IGN review for MH3U stated that you could use 3 screened gamepads and one normal on a TV screen on the same console for 4 player local coop??? I find this VERY hard to believe.

Until last year I was almost exclusively PC for a while but got tired of delays and broken ports so switched to PS4 and then the X1. Under no circumstances did I consider the Wii U. I don't understand the desire to play games like Mario, Toad treasure Hunter and what not. Level design might be great and visually fairly solid on under powered hardware. I feel for a more mature gamer the Wii U is not a great choice. My nieces love it however. I also loved Nintendo growing up from the nes to the snes and the N64. I still regard Super Mario World as the greatest 2D platform game ever.

I won't be going back to console purely because I'm happy with PC gaming. And by console I mean X1 or PS4.

Im looking for something fun, something I can stick on and enjoy without no thought. Such as Zelda or even some of the Wii titles.

If I were to have the time to get through the PC games I would like to (I have nowhere near enough time!) the only console I would consider adding would be the Wii U.

Everything available (worth playing) on the PS4 and Xbone, bar a GT/Forza game, is available or has an approximation available on PC. Wii U has a lot where there just isn't a passable substitute.

Plus Wii U had far better exclusives in 2014.

It seems for most scenarios the Wii U is a very good complementary second gaming platform. I wish I had the time to get one and enjoy it

ps3ud0

If you are one of those 'mature' gamers that prioritizes realism and a cinematic experience very highly in order to really enjoy gaming, then the Wii U probably isn't for you.

Otherwise, the Wii U has some incredible exclusives and offers unique and traditional gaming experiences, complementing PC gaming very well imo, PC has been my primary platform for many years, but the Wii U took up most of my free time last year.

You can only use 1 GamePad per console. The official standard controller is the 'Wii U Pro Controller'.
In order to play local multiplayer in MH3U, I believe you need to play with local 3DS players, i.e. The 3DS version can connect locally to the Wii U version for wifi link up.

The Wii U version of MH3U also has online multiplayer coop.

There's some fun coop to be had in games like Mario 3D World, Mario Bros U, Donkey Kong TF, Pikimin 3(challenge mode) to name a few, and you can of course play team modes in games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros.

I've had the money for a PS4 or XB1 since they were released but the Wii U has single handedly kept me from bothering with either - it's pretty much bene the centre piece of our home gaming entertainment for the whole family for the whole of last year - and part of 2013 too.

Occasionally I think maybe I should pick up a PS4 too - but then I wonder how I'd find to time for a PS4 in between MarioKart 8, Bayonetta, DK TF (I'm playing it through again this time in co-op) and Super Smash Bros (I'm completely hooked on this). The answer is that I won't - there's no way a PS4 would get a look it at the moment so, I'm just not going to bother.

Tons more Wii U stuff on the way:

Splatoon
Yoshis Woolly World
Kirby Rainbow
Legend of Zelda Wii U
Xenoblade Chronicles

Plus perhaps a surprise or two per E3 2015.

So, the PS4 can wait for a while - at home I'm happy with the Wii U.

Hand-held entertainment is also taken care of courtesy new3DS - 3 weeks and counting.

You know I've got a Wii u, and I just don't give it any time.. got a decent gaming laptop and a ps4, ps4 gets most of my time, gaming laptop for some games, like project cars etc...

Wii u, I enjoyed donkey Kong and Mario kart but it gets so little use... not due to being a poor machine, just I don't give it enough time. shame, but I guess realism wins out for me over what Nintendo offers...

I love the look of some of the Wii U games but I'm now brainwashed with achievement/trophy mentality that I think "what's the point of playing something without achievements/trophies." Bad, I know.

And there is another reason I don't use my Wii u much, steam and ps4 has these silly achievement/trophies to aim for, and it drives me to play the game more...

Wii u I just feel like, what's the point? It's silly I know, but there you go.

Nintendo currently has the best exclusive library imo

However i brought the wii u for mk8 and windwaker and have barely touched it since

I brought bayonetta 2 and did the first level or 2 and smash bros had the mates round once and havent touched that since

Its a great system though but i dont seem to want to play it! Have a load of other games on the go on pc though so maybe later on ill have more time for it. The gamepad is an annoyance for me

If this is where the mainstream console mentality is heading, I want out :(.

to be fair I did fully admit it's a,poor reason ..... I won't not play a game if its lacking trophies etc.. but games that have these silly trophies I find I spend more time on them as I go for the trophies..

It's not a reason to not play Wii u games.. I did admit that

Why the stance against trophy/achievements?

Nobody is forcing you to pay attention to them or go out your way to collect them.

I'm not overly fussed about them but every so often there are some interesting ones that challenge you.

Not sure if directed at me, but agreed, no one says you must collect um all, but I do like getting them as it shows to myself I've bothered to try and get my moneys worth out the game ... silly yes, but its a good progress tracker . for me does add some value, to think... I'm over 40 and find stupid things like this has value .... oh dear. Lol

I was referring to Moothead2's comment as he states if achievement hoarding is the way forward then he is out.

I would imagine he was more referring to the way gamers (prior posters) appear to prioritise achievements over gameplay. He wasn't decrying achievements as such, just the over-importance being placed upon them.
