IF 1 x 390X can outdo a 295X2 then my wallet is theirs, If not then I'll be skipping and waiting for the 4xx series.

How much are we likely talking for the r9 380?
Looking at current prices of the 280 its around £200?

Attention switched to this thread following the underwhelming 960 launch.

AMD need the sales, Nvidia wont miss you.![]()

I don't think there will be a 390x as such, not for a good while anyway. The way things seem to be going is that AMD will go with the 380 as top end, just like Nvidia did with the 680 and now 980, even though it isn't really designed from the ground up to be top end, but limited to what is achievable due to still being stuck on 28nm. The Tonga architecture die (285) isn't any smaller than the Tahiti die (280) that it replaced. The HawaiI die at 438mm is fairly large already, if the Tonga improvements didn't bring about much of a change in die size than I don't see where AMD can go with it. Would AMD do a 600mm+ die like Nvidia are supposedly doing with GM200, I doubt it.
