looking to build myself a HTPC for tv[using tuner card] / media playback and in the near future steam inhome streaming [1080p 60fps]

will be inside this board - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-603-AS

not looking to spend the earth but is the extra speed really needed for the extra price ?

not sure how much the gpu will change performance, there is ofc the inbuild gpu's but i have at home a geforce 210 lying in a draw, but could also consider getting a 610 or anything other low power and quiet [has to be half height single slot though]

The sempron only supports 1333 ram, The GPU is the same in all and clock speed is the only other differentiator.

A 210 or 610 wouldn't offer anything over the igpu but you could add something like a 750ti for low to mid gaming natively.

I'm thinking of doing something similar in a tiny case and would probably go for the 5150 for value/performance.

I built an HTPC a few years ago. In the end it was a choice between an AMD APU or an Intel CPU + nVidia GPU. The latter was slightly more expensive but I went with it because of nVidia's custom resolutions feature, which lets you get very close to correct frame rates (23.976 fps is a tricky one for most GPUs, for example). The GPU was specifically designed for HTPCs (GT430) and is passively cooled, which is nice because you don't want a noisy PC in your living room.

Basically it depends what you want to do. CPU speed doesn't really matter, so a budget dual core is sufficient (I went with a Sandy Bridge Celeron for £30). If you want to use MadVR with really high settings for maximum quality, you'll need a high-end GPU. If you're happy with 1080i/p at up to 60 Hz with nothing fancy, any modern integrated GPU will be fine also.

I went for the 5350 in my HTPC in that same motherboard and it's performed fine for me. I mainly use XBMC/KODO to play raw blu-ray rips (30+ GB MKV files) over the network from my microserver and it does that without breaking a sweat. The iGPU is fine for outputing at proper framerates (24/25/50/60 etc) and it passes the full HD 7.1 audio streams to my AV receiver as well.
I did think of going for the 5150 but it was only £8 difference so I thought I might as well go for the higher one just in case I need need a little more power down the line.

thankyou for all your opinions, glad the integrated gpu should be more than enough after some careful consideration i have gone for the 5350 for the slight performance increase will most likely be needed sometime in the future

also went for a Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 GT to keep things nice and cool whilst being quiet, crammed inside the Silverstone Milo ML03. stoked to get this thing built up now :)

Great stuff. What Psu are you going to use? Are you going to get a pico PSU?

I favour the antec cases like the ISK110 / IS300 because it comes with the power brick / DC converter thing.

The other option would be to use the asrock board which has a power jack input on the motherboard.

running 5150 for TeamSpeak3 & FTP server ... runs all my dedicated gaming servers such as chivalry and assetto corsa etc without breaking a sweat . all in unison . gonna grab another and an asus board , clock the **** out of it for some cheap fun
