Hutchison Whampoa & O2UK

I hope it doesn't affect 3's roaming abroad deal somehow.

as a three customer not exactly keen on this, I'd rather they spent the money spreading 4g out and not take on 02's pitiful network

They will have a lot of work installing the 4/3G equipment on these 2G areas, and that will take a long while. O2's network also needs a massive improvement, it simply can't handle its current user base. They may be able to offload some to 3 but I'm sure 3 is starting to saturate their network too. While it's a nice idea for O2 to be merged into 3, there is a lot of work to do to get it to 3 level. In the long run, 3's coverage will be a lot better and O2 customers should hopefully see better services in future if this does go through.

TalkTalk's reputation is thoroughly undeserved and based mainly on incorrect assumptions formed in the past.

I wouldn't mind 3 picking up o2 but mostly for the 2G network we might be able to use while they upgrade. 3G in my area is fine but not actually good in my house as I can lose signal completely which is a PITA.

Looks like Sky and TalkTalk are also interested in O2: http://www.kitguru.net/channel/gene...k-and-three-join-list-of-potential-o2-buyers/

Sky I wouldn't mind as they have the money to invest, but TalkTalk... their broadband is already pretty poor, I doubt they'll do much to O2 if they bought it.

Please, please not TalkTalk.

I'd switch in a heartbeat if that was true. I'd want nothing to do with that company.

I doubt it will happen though.

Merging with 3 I guess would be good.

Also, wern't Vodafone looking at O2 for a possible merger?

There was talk of sharing LTE infrastructure, but I don't think much came of it.

Voda does have more money than O2 UK due to Vodafone Group selling off Verizion and Telefonica keeping all profit made by O2 in the UK and Germany.

Hope this doesn't cause problems on 3 network. Barely get any decent down speeds while up here in the smoke. Especially inside.

They went ahead with it and split the country in two with O2 looking after one side and Vodafone the other. London is a half half split as well. The network is still being rolled out (the joint venture company is called Cornerstone) but I wonder what will happen now.
