Hi all I had originally set my heart on the Dell U3415W until OCUK posted they had stock for the Philips BDM4065UC and now I cant decide!

I currently have the Dell U2711 so I'm just thinking if the U3415W is a significant upgrade? I've read reviews on the BDM4065UC and they've been pretty good.

My GPU is the 780 Ti SC so wont play games at highest setting on 4k I guess. Games I play are mostly MMO's and League of Legends.

Which of the two would you pick? or just wait for few more years and get a new GPU and 8K screen :D

Much of this decision may come down to how big your desk is, how close you sit to your screen and when you plan on updating your gpu's. Some of those factors may instantly rule one out. If they're not a factor then I'd be hard pushed to choose to be honest. The Dell personally suited my needs better but if I had a bigger desk, more gpu grunt and didn't need to use it for photo processing then I'd maybe have gone for the Philips. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either.

I too wanted a Dell U3415W but I'm going to get the Philips. It's basically the same, but with the added vertical resolution. And if you really want, you can "emulate" a 21:9 display (and it's slightly bigger! 3840x1600 I think) :)

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go for the Dell in the end because knowing me I'll want more gpu power and end up getting another 780 ti or sell the 780 and get the 980...aka more money. Also I probs don't have enough space for the 40". :D

There is a thread here about some horrible issues with the Philips, I would have a read there before making your mind up. I was looking at one, as my Dell order has been cancelled due to 0 stock.

A very valid point. I used this logic to get the BenQ 32 over an ultra wide.

One other thing I would add slightly from experience is that I only got a 32 inch monitor but I found the extra height gave some neck strain when doing actual desktop work. So my advice would be make sure you can either sit far enough away from it or get a good height adjustable chair that gives you good height otherwise straining to look at top and bottom of the screen will get tiresome, side to side isn't so bad.

As a massive gaming monitor the Philips is excellent, it has some issues that plague a lot of monitors but they are not horrible unless you go looking for them. The dedicated thread here is not about horrible issues, but the monitor in general (both good and bad points).

To put it into perspective it is wider than a 34" super widescreen, has the benefit of more vertical area and full 4K capability, all for the same price. Horses for courses really but IMHO after trying both types of monitor the 16:9 4K gives a better more immersive experience. Each to their own and I do agree that people need to know of potential issues on such expensive kit. Though your post implies the only purpose of the thread here is to highlight horrible issues.

Grid-induced color distortion/streaking affects more than just the BDM4065UC and really is not an issue for those who primarily game. Even for serious work the BDM4065UC is very good. Though I would personally never recommend it for anyone who works professionally in graphics/photos.
