OK, my wife managed to drop her Nexus 5 into the loo. She quickly fished it out and it spent some days in rice on a radiator. It failed to boot and plugging in the charger failed to result in anything on the screen.

The water indicator inside is still white as is the one in the SIM slot. so the old place for water ingression is the bottom holes for microphone and speaker and the headphone socket.

Any suggestions as to what might have failed? It would be a lot cheaper to replace bit rather than a whole phone. Thanks for any help.

If it's totally dead it'll be cheaper and less hassle just to scrap it and buy another one rather than trying to guess at whats broken and trying to replace bits just for another bit to fail 6 months down the line from corrosion.

It's possible that you might be covered through a bank account?? Most accounts that carry a monthly fee give you decent mobile phone cover!

First of all, thanks for the replies. I think that this is a learning experience and we will replace the phone and hope that one of us has learned not to drop phones into the loo!

Sadly, I don't seem to have any insurance to claim off so that's about it.

My Mrs did same, they don't dry out.

Bought her a Z1 compact cos she's a nightmare for wet phones.
