I'm probably being overly optimistic here- but could they be doing it because they want to utilise features in the near future that aren't compatible with an older OS, and would rather entice everyone over to a W10 starting point right from the start so they can move forward ASAP rather than drip feeding new features over the years to keep pace with those dragging their heels migrating from 7/8/8.1?
There seems to be more enthusiasm, for example, with Apple OS to upgrade because they offer some interesting new features with every release, where as people just see Windows updates as same old same old and just end up sticking with what they know.
