Just how nutty are the Green party?

Very.

Up until earlier this week, I had no idea about some of these more extreme policies.

I suppose some of them sound good in theory, but in practice and the real world, no not really.

The Greens haven't earned a place in the TV debates. The regulator OFCOM recognised 4 major parties - which didn't include the Greens. UKIP have topped the last national election (the European Elections) and have been consistently polling close to 20% for about two years. They have won two of the last four by-elections and finished second in the other two.

What have the Greens done to think they have earned a spot?

Actually UKIP are only getting around 13-15% of the voter base in polls while the Greens are polling at up to 8%. The Green Party has more members than UKIP. The Green Party are increasing their polling rate rapidly while UKIP are decreasing. The Green Party had an MP long before UKIP. And the UKIP MPs are defections.

In the real world, Fact my dear, is always better than fiction.

Sadly, this forum has always attracted right wing activists who use it as a platform to push their propaganda. Years back it was the BNP and characters like Dolph. Since the demise of the BNP, all those cowards jumped ship to ukip who are seen as a more publicly paleteable, partially due to a reinforced media marketing campaign. Every so often, threads like this pop up and all the party subscribers pop up like little **** roaches to make their supporting snide comments, as if their infestation somehow generates a whole narrative.

Trouble is, nobody actually cares. Anybody with half a brain can see through it and anybody else probably shouldn't be voting in the first place :p

Why do you seem to be linking Dolphs views to the BNP? He is a libertarian rather than a racist party with a populist socialist sprinkling. There is very little overlap between Dolphs views and the BNPs. You probably have closer views to the BNP.

Agree with some of their policies, strongly disagree with others.

Overall they're potentially a bit nuttier than UKIP.

Everyone's nuts, just vote for whoever is closest to your own nutty ideals.

I think Green's mainstream ideas are good but some of their more 'out their' policies won't be acceptable to most people. As a leftie I think they would bring a good balance to parliament with the abject failure of New Labour to offer a legitimate left-wing choice.

Hopefully UKIP will split the Conservative vote even more and we'll end up with a minority government again. It helps hold back a few of the totally bonkers policies that every party seems to have.

The one and only council in the UK controlled by the "Green" party is Brighton and Hove, yet they have one of the worst waste recycling records in Britain............

Bwhahahhahha, epic straw man. You must be very afraid if you have to resort to troll baiting with that.

I am very afraid of the whole concept of "right to die" legislation. It is evil.

What puzzles me is how many people refuse to call it what it is. Assisted suicide.

You don't realise how "right to die" laws work in other countries do you?

No, I am very familiar with how the assisted suicide laws work in other counties. They allow women to be assisted in killing themselves because of a ringing in their ears for example. Those who reject the slippery slope argument only need to look at the way things have developed in Belgium.

Nationalising the railways would be a disaster

We see from the continent that it is much more efficient to have nationalised railways. That is why they can outbid private companies here, and take the profits back to their home countries.

Renting train stock due to short-term franchises adds a huge cost to the system.

Scraping trident is the most sensible thing ever, don't really see the problem in not spending£20bn on something that won't ever be used.

The greens have more members than ukipshambles and the LIbDems, of course they should be in debates

This list was copied from the torygraph so no wonder it's negative slant

Exactly, but as already stated this is a very right-wing/conservative bias forum so those sensible socialist ideas won't be popular :(

You've got to be kidding, it's overrun with liberal apologists

I like their policy on reducing TV advertising, and they make a few reasonable points, the rest is just so insane that it would be dangerous to the UK to even consider them. A bit like UKIP really.

Noted that some of these may not be current policy, someone needs to post a true picture.

Green is essentially neo communism. Its all rooted in anti-capitalism. That list is ridiculous. That sounds like a tryrannical government to me, no matter what good intentions they think exist. That list is very arbitrary and there appear to be no thought gone in to the economic impact of the communist "wish list". Its what I would imagine would happen if complete economic illiterate people took power.

I always thought that inheritance tax hurts the poor and middle class the most.
