just looking at graphics cards.. not rushing into anything but if I was to buy a new one what would be a good upgrade over the msi T/F 7950 boost edition?

Can you wait 3 months?

yea as I say im in no rush.
the 7950 is still a good capable card so im still happy with it but as I say I would like to upgrade it
so waiting 3 months isint a problem. lets me increase my upgrade fund :D

what makes you ask?

The successor to the 2 series is coming and it looks pretty darn good atm. When I say 2 series I mean 270/280/290. Even if it was a failure of a launch (it won't be), it would still drive current prices down being older tech and a 290 is still a great upgrade over the 7950. So either way, you win ;).

sounds like a good plan. looking at the spec of the R9 290 it would be a good upgrade. think that will be my plan. ;)

Brilliant!. Either way, you'll end up with an amazing card.

Do you have another PC that will benefit from your 7950?. If not, you can always sell it and put it towards the new card.

that would be plan to get some cash back after the upgrade.

Ive got an HD 5970 sitting and my old fx 6100 cpu that I was planning on building a pc up with but never got that far yet..

I did sell my old msi gts450 and fx6350 built up with a cheap board and 4gb of ram recently to my mate as his pc had dinosaur dropping sitting behind it.

I should possibly do the same with the fx 6100 and 5970

Every little helps!. *Tesco

I get you with the "I'll get round to it soon" thing, least you have the option at will.

Hahaha I can only imagine. 15 minute wait for the desktop to appear :D. I bet he was chuffed with the upgrade.

Maybe just offer the 5970 to the friend you sold the FX6350 to?.

I did but he said it would be over kill for him as hes not a gamer. he does an online radio show thats about the most demanding thing.. then spends half his life on facebook.

yea his old system was a single core AMD thing maxed out with 2gb ddr ram... and running on board graphics.

so the jump to the fx6350, 4gb ddr3, and the gts450 was a big leap forward for him. I built it up in a zalman z9 case with a corsair cx750 psu so its running decent internals and hes over the moon

290 was a great upgrade from my 7950 Twin Frozr and will see me through for another year or two but definitely worth waiting a few months. for 300 series, I think they'll be something special indeed. Plus with FreeSync coming around the same time, it is a good time to be in the market for new AMD gear.

I went 970 from 7950. Got my G1 for £275, sold the game code for £22 and sold my 7950 for £90.

So my upgrade cost me £163. I'm not impressed with the 970 over my 7950 as there to buggy, fps drops, usage drops, maybe some vram issues, who knows. My 7950 just worked, great cards and wish I never sold it really.

Thing is I won't be buying new tech again, luckily £163 wasn't to bad to pay and I'm thinking I'm just going to use this for a year or so. By then 3series, full maxwell should be established with any problems known or ironed out, then I might look at upgrade options.

i made the same move and it's quiet, no fps issues, everything just works with teh exception of RGB limited output being weird and buggy. I can live with that for now. But the rest of it, awesome.
