So what's a good 34" gaming monitor?

I got myself a BenQ xl2720z for Christmas and to be honest, I aren't impressed. The viewing angle seems lower than my old Hanns-G 28 (both of the models I have) and I just CANNOT get the colours right on the settings no matter. It always seems too stark.

Anyway, £330 ....it's not too bad so I kept it and I'm going to put it on my spare PC.

I've decided I'm getting another with my bonus in a few months.

And I'm going big :) I want IPS as I'm sick of the differences in a few inches height difference - like when I recline my chair or sit on my beam bag or I'm standing etc. It's always diff. so I end up farting about with the height/angle of the monitor - the good thing is BenQ's are very adjustable.

Anyhoo as I said I want IPS eliminate this.....something good and clear. Even ultrawide is fine long as it's good for gaming.
Any suggestions? Budget.... up to £800 for the perfect model :)

Thanks for the help everyone :)

Wait 3-6 months, there were lots of new monitors announced at CES this year but it is going to be a few months before they are available and reviews are out

What graphics card do you have?

+1... if you can be patient, it's worth waiting. If for no other reason than the current crop of 34" ultra wides are beset with bleed/glow issues. You might get a good one, but there seems an equal chance you may not. One big panel lottery. Plus if you think you'd benefit from faster than 60Hz, you're definitely better off waiting, as the 120/144Hz IPS models seem to be closer than anyone initially thought... and if they can sort the bleed issues, these could be THE monitor to own.

I thought GPU memory was the biggest issue with large size screens not speed. Got got this 760 about a year ago as well £300 at the time !

3440x1440 is very demanding in games your 760 does not have enough GPU grunt to run games at that res even if it does have 4gb of memory.

Your going to have upgrade you GPU or go for a lower resolution monitor like the LG i linked to above:)

I've ordered a Dell U3415W 34" monitor so I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives. I actually ordered a new PC at the time with an upgraded video card as I knew from benchmarks that the Geforce 770 in my previous rig wouldn't cut it so a Geforce 760 definitely wont be up to running modern games at that resolution.

£300 for a Geforce 760....srsly!

Can't remember. ****** or ****. They were similarly priced all over though and highly recommended.
The equivalent to mine is still around £200 now though.

In fact I can't find it under £200 for the version I've got. Maybe it was just a bloated overpriced card.

It's starred out *****

It was starred out for a reason.

Please read the
FAQ re competitors.

Thanks

The upcoming Gysnc/Freesync/High Hz 21:9 34" monitors are still looking like they'll be a few months away and probably towards the end of the year or even next if you want one at the 3440x1440 resolution. And when they're out you might struggle to get one in the £800 budget.

Personally I like the look of the Dell U3415W and the price seems decent so I've gone for that rather than wait for what could be vapourware (and may not even come out this year if you want a 3440x1440 model). I suspect we'll see 2560x1080 Gsync models out in the next 6 months though so if that's what you're after it could be worth waiting.

It's all speculation really but that's my feeling about the situation hence why I decided to order one now rather than continue waiting! You eventually get to a point where you're always waiting for the next new tech....

Your decision.... :)
