Sapphire Announces Radeon R9 290X 8GB Tri-X with Higher Clocks

Following the successful introduction of the industry's first 8GB R9 290X graphics card with its Vapor-X model, SAPPHIRE Technology has just announced another 8GB card sporting the highly acclaimed SAPPHIRE exclusive Tri-X triple fan cooler, enhanced clocks and dual BIOS, making the large frame buffer option available at a slightly lower cost.

The SAPPHIRE R9 290X Tri-X 8GB features the latest GCN (graphics core next) architecture from AMD with 2816 stream processing units and an enhanced engine clock of up to 1020Mhz. It is equipped with 8GB of the latest high performance GDDR5 memory on a 512-bit interface and now clocked at 1375 MHz (5.5GHz effective) delivering higher bandwidth than earlier models. Built on a SAPPHIRE original pcb, the layout incorporates a 6-phase power design delivering up to 240 watts (40 watts per phase) for maximum performance. Two 8-pin power connectors ensure adequate system power is available (up to 375 Watts total including PCI-Express power).

While no doubt a couple of these would probably be the best choice (financially) for great performance on 4K gaming, I can't help but to feel that it's getting to the point of beating a dead...well...dying horse, with the new gen due to arriving soon.

Though if they price them low enough (£250), it would make sense. But coming from Sapphire, I just don't see that happening.

290 and 290x have always been the 4k king tbh. Even the 4gb models have huge memory pipelines so can easily cope with 4k.

295x2 is the 4k solution IMO.

One of the best 290 cards going just got a nice video memory upgrade to 8GB. It's always nice to know you have memory spare to use if needed. :)
Speaking of extra vram...when is the driver for the 4K VSR for the 290 cards going to be ready? :D

I'm pretty sure the 4K VSR being only available for the 285 at the moment is pretty pointless...:p

I'm afraid i can't give you an exact date Marine, but when it's ready I'll be posting about it here don't worry.

Lol, last post you made basically said 4gb not enough, now it's enough - because?? Magic?

In the last post I made in the Nvidia thread I said that 3.5gb wasn't enough for 4k yet I believed it was enough for 1080/1440p.

If the full 4gb is available with full bandwidth then it's just about enough for now.

Which of course I fully believe, given I bought Titans just to make sure I didn't get caught out.

Love my 290 Tri-X, a 290X Tri-X 8gb version would be brilliant, but alas i am saving for a new GPU of the 3XX variant when they come ;)

Also Matt, beg your guvna's at AMD to make a world shattering CPU please :)
