Hi all,

Big fast profits to be earned at Beta Sculptoris-Fan Horizons buying performance enhancers and selling to type 9 as luxury goods=1362ppt.

Beta Sculptoris is 98% boom with about 6 type 9s buying luxury goods before it goes into probable civil war.

Just tried one run and it took only 5mins from station to ship and back again.

Happy profits to you all.

I found a system with just me in it that had a 4 minute turnaround on luxuries. I'm normally not a trader but couldn't resist the lure of quick profit. Sold my shields and shield cells for cargo space. My Cobra had 60t space and I was making ~85,000 Cr every ~3.5 minutes. The space station was not orbiting a planet, so acceleration to in SC was almost instant.

I made about 1.5 million before getting bored and headed for Shinrartra Dezra to get an Asp. Part of me wanted to keep grinding until I had much more money, but I was missing combat.

Sorry, this was two stations in the same system? What were you doing on the other leg of the journey?

My Viper's cargo scoop is fine.

Smuggling back stuff scooped up from USSs for bulletin board missions is pretty much the only thing I use the ship for, and I have never once had a problem with it.

Have you successfully used cargo scoops on other ship classes?
Yes. I even think I used it on the viper when I had it before. One of the cargo slots has a shield bank in it, I might try swapping them around later to see if that fixes it.

If you see "Seeking Luxuries" in a system you can buy Performance Enhancers at a station, drop out of SC at Seeking Lux and a Type 9 will automatically grab your cargo and give you pennies.

If it is within the same system = good returns.
If it is a jump away, I find a good route = more pennies per hour.

Ahhh... So what counts as luxuries exactly? What sort of price do they give you? I assume it's better that your average good station price?

Making 310k on a round trip in my Asp atm. Just hit the mark to afford a type 7 now need to grind another 3hrs to afford to fill it with imperial slaves wwwhaaaa. I don't think I have fired a shot in anger in 1.5 weeks. Man the grind is long when you have a job.

Sorry, spelling mistake there, I have corrected it. I was running from one station that was in far orbit from the star (~650LS) but it did not orbit any planets, it orbited the star. The distance to the Seeking Luxuries USS from the station was 82Ls. It was a round trip of around 4 minutes and I was netting ~85,000 per 60 tonnes.

Normally it's between 1200-1300cr per ton, almost always performance enhancers only..

The trick is the fact that the luxuries trader is often only a few LS from the station, and you don't need to dock - simply drop out of SC, fly near the spacecow, and it automatically swaps your cargo for money, so whilst there's only one leg of the journey that makes money - the lack of hyperspace/docking at both systems, and the lack of any fuel usage or scooping, means CR per ton comes in a lot faster

It's a great earner but just be a touch careful as doing the "seeking luxuries" bit decreases your reputation with certain local factions as it is classed as smuggling. Also I believe your rank won't change doing these runs.

True!

Has anybody done many more of the reputation missions for the factions? I'm a Baron with the empire, but I'd read somewhere that the people who'd ranked much higher - were seeing bounty board missions paying 300-500k each,

Would be good to get involved there, might try it..

I think I'm beginning to see the problem - are you getting mixed up between the cargo scanner and scoop?

The scoop is a default component of all ships (as far as I know) and it is not something that you can "swap" the slot for.

The cargo scanner is an extra piece of kit that you can choose to buy and fit, and then use to scan ships to see what they're carrying.

The scanner will not pick up stuff for you - you need to deploy the scoop (default button HOME, I think) and then use the radar that replaces the usual blue target compass to aim.

Does that help or make sense at all?

Also, Shield Cell bank has nothing to do with cargo in case it is that...
Cargo Scanners currently reside in Utility slots, not internal compartments.

It has a delayed action so if triggered it takes 5 secs or so to regen the shields.

Have you turned the Cargo Scoop off in the Modules section of the right hand panel?

It shouldn't, the negative rep was a bug that was fixed a while ago. Rank increases the same as market trading.

Okay, I feel like giving this game another try. I haven't tried it in months, first played back in PB and am a KS backer so I should have a freagle.

What's a good way for me to start up in the game? I'm up for doing some trade runs mainly. Once I have a bit of cash I'll likely get myself a decent fighting ship and kit it out nicely. Am I right in thinking that you can now have more than one ship?

So I kind of need tips from the start, how do I find a decent trading run? Should I sell my eagle for the extra capital to put into trading better goods?

I'm running one of these at the moment, found a Seeking Luxuries sitting just .11Ls away from a booming economy station full of cheap performance enhancers so the trip from station to space cow takes just 15 seconds or so (although they moved into the nearby planets mavity well so now it takes double that. Been making about 3M credits an hour in my Imperial Clipper for the last few hours.

If you're in Imperial space and want the name of the system then let me know, I've made plenty from it already so I don't mind sharing.

...and this isn't resulting in negative rep as someone suggested?

I've gone from neutral to friendly with the Imperial faction which controls the station, not sure about the other factions but I'm not too fussed when I'm pulling in this kind of bank.

Well, I'm interested in doing some stuff in Imperial space, so if it's not too far I'm interested please?

Email in trust ;)

I have a confession to make; despite being here for many years I've never really understood how the email/trust thing works :p

System is Zeta Horologii though, and the starport is May Port. Space Cow is sitting about .11Ls outside the port, just fill up with Performance Enhancers and fly to within about 300m of one of the space cows and they'll automatically take the cargo from you and give you credits. Rinse and repeat for more credits.
