Hi All,

I recently completed prototype 2 (advised as a friend got it as a monthly freebie on PSN) and I would now like to start Assassins Creed!

I have never played any of them before(don't hurt me) so what I want to know is:

Should I play from the first released game to the latest or does it not really matter?

Many thanks :)

there is a running story through them. not the most complex. but they do really get a bit better as they go on. there are things in the first one which are just really really annoying. sure others will have more severe opinions than i

gameplay is good, and the story, for the most part is great too. I would recomment playing up to brotherhood, and go forward from there at your own risk.

I'd do them chronologically. It's the best way to complete the story. In terms of the first one however, you don't get a lot out of the side missions for the amount of stuff you have to do to complete them, so it's probably best to just stick to the main story otherwise it gets monotonous.

My recommendations:

Skip the first game - It was more of a technological show-piece for Xbox 360 with some nice ideas but gameplay was very samey.

Play Assassins Creed II and if you like that, play 'Brotherhood' as well.

ACII, Brotherhood and Revelations are a trilogy focusing on one particular character. Revelations is ok but didn't add anything of note to gameplay so after playing the other two it starts to feel like a bit of a chore.

Skip ACIII - It's not very good.

Absolutely play ACIV: Black Flag. The story is nothing much to speak of, but you get a ship to traverse the carribean, upgrade etc etc. It looks good, the ship stuff is great and from a gameplay perspective, it's the best in the series IMO.

Haven't played Unity. It looked a bit dull.

Thanks all!! I will look into them more this evening. Looks like they are all available on Steam anyway which is good :)

Thanks!

Stack up on coffee, redbull and keep a window open as the first one is really bloody boring!
Im still battling to get through it, the following games apparently get better though.

As previously stated, #1 was good at the time and does start the story but can be skipped and you can start with 2, Then do Brotherhood and revelations which both have good stories but Brotherhood was by far the best of those 3. #3 was OK at best but can be easily skipped but Blackflag is just brilliant. Unity is ok but very dull and the storyline just has not grabbed me.

I would agree. I don't think 1 has aged well either, 2 was such a better game. 2 and Brotherhood are my favourites.

I started from Brotherhood and up, great storylines. 3 was a bit meh but still decent. Think I'm skipping Unity as it seems to be a flubadub ^^.

Dont skip any, some parts later show some back stories of previous that were pretty good.

AC 1 was a bit repetitive in some areas but worth playing through once....play them all.(3 i thought was bad but still played through it)

Playing through Unity at the moment which is good.

Nothing wrong with number 1, comparing it to the ones that come after it shows that it isn't that great but at the time it set a fantastic storyline and was an amazingly good game with a whole new style of game play.

Up to brotherhood is good, beyond that I didn't bother...

I am going to work through from the first and see how I get on! :)

I may have the same opinion after I play the first two as many of you do but may as well. I have always thought they looked good anyway.

Do it properly - play them all up to Assassins Creed 3. AC3 isn't a good game, it is a mess but the modern day story portion of the game is important as it still features the main character introduced in the first AC game.

AC4:Black Flag however goes a different tangent and focuses on pirating and ship sailing, both of which are absolutely superb. The main 'assassin' gameplay element of the game i.e the campaign is dreadful consisting of about 90% eavesdropping (follow an npc whilst in stealth) missions.
----------
AC1 = Very good. Repetitive if you repeatedly use the same combat techniques all the time. The world they created was a massive accomplishment for that time.

AC2 = Brilliant.
AC: Brotherhood = Better than the above.

AC3: Dull characters, rubbish storyline - it just never clicked with me.
AC4: As above, great sea warfare, dreadful campaign consisting of nothing but (for the most part) repetitive follow my leader missions.

Not tried Unity. I feel it is the same thing combat wise, just in a new world albeit a well created one. Also, sod Ubisoft.

I've only played black flag and I love it. Just sailing around. Maybe looking for treasure or engaging a man o war it's a huge and brilliant game.

I'm hoping rogue comes to pc sometime soon.

Only played one AC and that was Black Flag also, Great game, Don't think i'm going to play AC1 or 2 due to the controls.

I got the full pack, plus all the DLC and deluxe versions for £20 up to and including black flag from the forest.. Keys for uplay, once installed you don't need to run uplay until black flag.
