Fed up with using my IEMS for work they annoy me after a while and I have to take them out.

Looking at

DT770/M50X/K550/HXC/OTHER SUGGESTIONS

Amplification is not a concern

Just want some honest opinions I'm siding with saving the pennies and getting the HXC's but I'm happy to listen to reasons to spend more.

They will double up as my lan and traveling headphones so I would like them to have a decent build quality i'm pretty heavy handed, but I have microphones so i'm only really fussed about the headphone itself.

yeah upper limit of say £150 I'd rather not hit that though.

just read ryans review on the skull candy aviators so might have a read of a few more reviews.

Oh I should add I don't like on ear's

well I have 3 days till pay day I'll do some reading on the K550 they might not still be their but I don't want to ask him to wait till friday for me to change my mind :o

there is currently a pair of Sennheiser Urbanite XL in the rain forest warehouse deals that are worth a look - they normally sell for £200

Regardless of their appearance, you don't want DT100's as they don't have much response below 150hz. DT150's fixed that problem. Personally, I like DT250 and DT770, 250's being the more neutral sound and 770's following the ear response curve. (More LF and a small boost to upper HF)

I found the K550 to be one of the most boring, non musical full sized heaphones from a top brand. I think they are great for detail whores looking to hear as much as possible in their music.

I like the DT770's for travelling. Built like a tank and sound more balanced on the go. They also isolate pretty good. Aviators are excellent also, more balanced sound but a bit fragile at times. I've never had one break yet though. They sound seems to of changed a bit over the years, the first DT770 Pro I had reminded me of a Denon can in which it was U shaped and energetic but a bit too treble happy for my taste.

I've purchased a couple in 2013-2014 and the sound has changed to a warmer sound with less peaks to my ears. It's quite a syrupy sound now but has a tad less detail then the previous ones. The changes are minor. The DT770 with the leather pads is dark, also syrupy and easier on the ears all around.

If you can add another £38 get the Focal Spirit Professional. They are glorious, really balanced, punchy and detailed. One of the best examples of imaging I've heard closed too. They can hold their own with headphones double the price pretty well! I would put them up there with the SRH 1540, W1000X which are both hifi closed backs. They are efficient also.

DT770 isolation is probably the best of any closed headphone I've tried. You won't hear much of your colleagues and the music won't leak either.

It's worth noting that the Focals have some of the smallest ear pads of any 'over ear' headphone I've tried. Definitely worth a demo before purchasing.

Will throw the Sennheiser Momentum on/over ear in there as another option though the over ear ones are a little over the top end of the budget. Definitely a headphone you really need to try before you buy though as they can be difficult to adjust for comfort person to person.

I have to say for on the go use I come back time and time again to my MX580s despite having more expensive/higher end options though I've never tried gaming on them.

Yeah forgot about that! My classics have tiny pads compared to my other headphones and at first it was pretty weird but I'm used to it now.

cool thanks a pair of HXC II's landed on my desk last night from kingston expect a review shortly.

Presentation wise though All I can say is wow they've gone to town for £74.99

Will still be looking for a pair for travelling but i'm going to give these a blast for now.
