Well,
I've had the game since Christmas now, but this is the first week I've been actually able to put any real time into it, and it's still only a couple of hours a night, if that.
The first few weeks I spent bimbling about doing some missions in my sidey, bought a hauler and then a little bit of trading combined with running some missions. I'm not ashamed to say it but most of my early cash came from smuggling slaves into fed stations for 45k per 2 slaves. I found the best way was hide them in back amongst normal cargo and then just boost into the station at full tilt. Was never caught but I may have accidentally "freed" a couple of them once or twice against the back wall of the station due to miscalculated trajectories, mass and something to do with some bloke called Newton?
Moved up to an adder and dabbled in a bit of mining as there was a pristine metallic ring near to where I was. Well, I say mining. A lot of the time it was more like "mineral subuteo" due to the weird Adder cargo scoop.
Got bored of mining, went back to trading/running missions.
Bought a Viper, tried to kill an Anaconda, lost everything. Balls.
Bit more trading and got an eagle. Did some upgrading and went bounty hunting for a bit. I'm not very good at the fighting yet, but seem to do ok. Mouse and keyboard so lots of rolling and trying to use the thrusters/energy management on the keyboard. What did help enormously, is to map the lateral thrusters to WASD, throttle in increments to Shift/Ctrl, yaw to Q/E and energy management to 1234. The extra buttons on the mouse for things cycling fire groups, shield cells, chaff etc.
Then I decided to try my hand a bit of rares trading. Been using the classic 2 loop system. Started in an adder, then a cobra and the final couple of loops I did in a T6.
So now I'm sitting in Lave, wondering what to do next. I can either carry on with the rares for a bit, build up some cash and go t7-t9 and get wealthy. Bit boring but opens options for now and for later in the game, especially if trading gets altered or rares get nerfed further.
It's either that or try and immerse myself in the metagame a bit. I quite fancy checking out this "silver comet" malarkey and trying to get a permit for Van Mannens star too, also the piracy thing that's kicking off somewhere sounds like a good way to sharpen my battle skills
