Well,

I've had the game since Christmas now, but this is the first week I've been actually able to put any real time into it, and it's still only a couple of hours a night, if that.

The first few weeks I spent bimbling about doing some missions in my sidey, bought a hauler and then a little bit of trading combined with running some missions. I'm not ashamed to say it but most of my early cash came from smuggling slaves into fed stations for 45k per 2 slaves. I found the best way was hide them in back amongst normal cargo and then just boost into the station at full tilt. Was never caught but I may have accidentally "freed" a couple of them once or twice against the back wall of the station due to miscalculated trajectories, mass and something to do with some bloke called Newton?

Moved up to an adder and dabbled in a bit of mining as there was a pristine metallic ring near to where I was. Well, I say mining. A lot of the time it was more like "mineral subuteo" due to the weird Adder cargo scoop.

Got bored of mining, went back to trading/running missions.

Bought a Viper, tried to kill an Anaconda, lost everything. Balls.

Bit more trading and got an eagle. Did some upgrading and went bounty hunting for a bit. I'm not very good at the fighting yet, but seem to do ok. Mouse and keyboard so lots of rolling and trying to use the thrusters/energy management on the keyboard. What did help enormously, is to map the lateral thrusters to WASD, throttle in increments to Shift/Ctrl, yaw to Q/E and energy management to 1234. The extra buttons on the mouse for things cycling fire groups, shield cells, chaff etc.

Then I decided to try my hand a bit of rares trading. Been using the classic 2 loop system. Started in an adder, then a cobra and the final couple of loops I did in a T6.

So now I'm sitting in Lave, wondering what to do next. I can either carry on with the rares for a bit, build up some cash and go t7-t9 and get wealthy. Bit boring but opens options for now and for later in the game, especially if trading gets altered or rares get nerfed further.

It's either that or try and immerse myself in the metagame a bit. I quite fancy checking out this "silver comet" malarkey and trying to get a permit for Van Mannens star too, also the piracy thing that's kicking off somewhere sounds like a good way to sharpen my battle skills :)

That silver comet sounds a bit dodgy, I wonder if it's thargoids!

Has anyone got any experience of using the Speedlink Black Widow USB Flightstick for this game?

I'm very tempted for a stick and throttle and while there have been a few recommendations for the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick but it's out of stock at OCUK and almost double the price anywhere else!

My friend uses the speedlink one, as he was desperate and wanted to play - he gets on fine with it, but in all honesty - the hotas-x is where it's at in my opinion.

The big selling point, is that the throttle splits away from the stick, so you can have them in a proper hotas setup, the speedlink is like a big joystick with a throttle bolted onto it.

My old man was using the Speedlink stick for a while but he hated it - awkward position to use the throttle and not enough buttons to play in a smooth manner.

Another +1 for the HOTAS-X

I thought I would share my "Seeking Luxuries" route and show how easy it is to make 200K every 4:30 minutes :)

Why didn't I do this sooner? :p

the biggest earner in the game is currently the one in Beta Sculpturis, where the luxuries trader is about 5ls from the station, people are making silly money there - word is that it's about to implode and go into civil war, but it's still generating lots of cash..

Probably an idea to do it in solo though, as there's a whole load of griefing going on...

Yer I bet there is :D I have had enough of that for the day and will enjoy my last day off work killing a few NPCs :D

There is another luxuries run in May Port in Zeta Horologii. Luxury buyer is 29Mm from the star port. Making about 3M credits an hour.

I'm making 295k every 4m09s in my 260cargo python. Today's efforts have bought me my 2 new class 3 gimballed beam lasers and a better FSD.

lel,

might pop over in my Anaconda later and give it a bash,

I'm currently on a decent route, 30LY that's making 2700cr profit round trip, gliese 868 > WW piscis (consumer tech and gold)

but 29Mn from the station, might have to come and give it a go

The grinding on this game is starting to get a bit tedious now. I'm beginning to think the game is a bit, "thin"?...

Any ideas how to inject some life into it?
